We are seeking to hire a full-time, permanent Field Operations Technician based in Val des Bois, QC and Wakefield, QC area. Reporting into the Field Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the hands-on day-to-day integration, repair and maintenance of the Xplore network. You are a self-starter who works well both independently and as part of a greater team, with excellent organizational and communication skills. This position acts as a prime in-field technical contact for support groups in the areas of network construction, repair, maintenance and support.
This role requires basic knowledge of IP Networking, working knowledge of both fixed wireless and Fibre optic network deployments, as well as a basic knowledge of telecom construction and tower rigging. This position will involve both on call support and off-hours maintenance work. Some overnight travel is a requirement and you must be willing to adapt to flexible work schedule.
Key responsibilities include :
- Strong problem solving, organizational, verbal, listening and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and interact with groups throughout the organization
- Capable of working on a variety of projects and coordinating multiple priorities
- Aptitude in IP networking which includes IP addressing and basic routing
- Knowledge in telecom construction including: Fibre Optic and copper cabling, punching, proper cable pulling techniques, racking, ground systems, static precautions, non-ionizing transmission safety, Occupational Health and safety as it relates to construction
- Strong understanding around AC and DC power systems and conversions including: voltage and wiring of single and poly-phase alternating current cables, direct current, and negative grounded direct current
- Experience with identifying all major types of RF, Fiber and power connectors.
- Experience with the construction and maintenance of communication tower sites
Strong troubleshooting skills - Strong organizational and time/task management skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
- 1-year related work experience or a degree/diploma from a related discipline
- Valid Driver’s License
- Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
- Experience with fixed wireless and Fibre optic network deployments
- Experience handling, configuring and installing Network Equipment (ex. Ericsson, Ceragon, Alpha DC Power Systems, Ciena, Cisco)
- Certified Fibre Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent experience would be an asset
- Experience with Fibre Optic troubleshooting tools & test sets (OTDR, Power Meters)
- Strong troubleshooting skills. The ability to break problems down using an Analytical approach
- Exposure to industry standards for Health & Safety, Construction & CSA
- Working knowledge of networking technologies including TCP/IP, routers, switches, DHCP
- Basic understanding of fixed wireless/ Fibre Optic network architecture and infrastructure.
- A credit card capable of carrying work related expenses
- The ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions
- Ability to work away from home. Long days & weekends as required

Ce poste fait office de contact technique principal sur le terrain pour les groupes de soutien dans les domaines de la construction, de la réparation, de l'entretien et du support du réseau.
Ce rôle nécessite une connaissance de base des réseaux IP, une connaissance pratique des déploiements de réseaux sans fil fixes et de fibre optique, ainsi qu'une connaissance de base de la construction de télécommunications et du montage de tours. Ce poste impliquera à la fois un soutien sur appel et des travaux de maintenance en dehors des heures normales. Des déplacements occasionnels avec nuitée sont requis et vous devez être prêt à vous adapter à un horaire de travail flexible.
Les principales responsabilités comprennent:
Solides compétences en résolution de problèmes, en organisation, en communication verbale, écrite et en écoute.
Capacité à travailler de façon autonome et au sein d'une équipe, et à interagir avec divers groupes à travers l'organisation.
Capacité à travailler sur divers projets et à coordonner des priorités multiples.
Aptitude pour les réseaux IP, incluant l'adressage IP et le routage de base.
Connaissances en construction de télécommunications, notamment : câblage en fibre optique et en cuivre, poinçonnage, techniques de tirage de câbles appropriées, mise en rack, systèmes de mise à la terre, précautions statiques, sécurité des transmissions non ionisantes, santé et sécurité au travail liées à la construction.
Forte compréhension des systèmes d'alimentation AC et DC et des conversions, incluant : le voltage et le câblage de câbles à courant alternatif monophasé et polyphasé, le courant continu et le courant continu à mise à la terre négative.
Expérience dans l'identification de tous les principaux types de connecteurs RF, fibre et d'alimentation.
Expérience dans la construction et l'entretien de sites de tours de communication.
Solides compétences en dépannage.
Fortes compétences en organisation et en gestion du temps et des tâches.
Le candidat idéal possédera:
1 an d'expérience de travail pertinente ou un diplôme/certificat dans une discipline connexe.
Permis de conduire valide.
