DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT:
This is a non-exempt, temporary/part-time position, limited to 1300 hours annually, under the general supervision of the Tax Audit Manager within the Finance Department. This position provides customer service, clerical support, and tax compliance assistance for the department. Work includes reviewing taxpayer accounts, assisting with licensing and return processing, making compliance calls, accepting and posting payments, and supporting front-office operations. The position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and the ability to interact professionally with taxpayers and City staff. Workload increases during peak tax periods, and the employee may assist with field visits or issuance of legal compliance notices as directed.
This job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the functions and tasks required of the position. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Review taxpayer accounts for accuracy, missing filings, and outstanding balances; follow up with taxpayers to collect payments or resolve compliance issues. Make compliance phone calls and respond to questions about sales/use tax filings, licensing, and general account status. Accept payments, count money, provide accurate change, and post transactions in the tax system. Process and verify sales and use tax returns; scan/link documents and update taxpayer accounts. Assist walk-in, phone, and email customers; provide clear explanations of basic tax and licensing requirements. Create or update business licenses and accounts; verify supporting documentation. Support daily mail processing, filing, cash drawer balancing, and front-counter reception as assigned. Retrieve information from various sources and prepare simple spreadsheets or logs for tracking revenue or compliance activity. Perform routine clerical duties and assist department staff with projects as needed. IMPORTANT

Must have ability to lift and move files and supplies weighing up to 45 pounds, with or without accommodation. Work is sedentary and done in a seated position, but requires frequent moving about, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching or stooping to perform filing. Position requires the ability to input large amounts of data using repetitive motion on a frequent and prolonged basis. The incumbent must be able to hear all communication from customers and employees by telephone or in person, and use vision to work with written documents, forms, and to respond to employees and customers. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Skill in customer service, phone etiquette, basic cashiering, and maintaining professionalism with diverse individuals. Ability to perform accurate data entry and basic math using a computer, 10-key, and standard office software (Excel, Word, Outlook). Ability to explain simple ordinance or licensing requirements in clear, understandable language. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently with frequent interruptions. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive taxpayer information appropriately. Ability to work a dependable 20-25-hour schedule, with occasional weeks up to 40 hours during peak periods. Ability to perform all job duties in a safe manner. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED. Experience in office work that includes collections, customer service, compliance, or financial record-keeping. A valid driver's license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of employment
License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license
Must be able to input large volumes of data. Preffered QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in sales tax, licensing, collections, or cashiering. Ability to assist with field visits or issuance of compliance notices if trained and assigned. SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The duties in this classification are primarily performed indoors, in a comfortable office environment. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including the ability to retrieve information from various locations in the office when needed. The individual will be frequently exposed to periods of demanding activity and high mental stress. Incumbents must be willing to work additional hours or overtime if required. The incumbent may be required to drive to training events and/or meetings in other departments. The position requires a great deal of interpersonal communication with City employees, the public, and outside agencies. The incumbent will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement to encompass any/all information reviewed through daily duties.Employees must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

City of Pueblo Temporary and Seasonal Employee Sick Leave Benefits Beginning January 1, 2021, all employers in Colorado are required to provide paid sick leave to employees under the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act ("HFWA"). Said leave is accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours. Per the Act, leave may be used for any of the following reasons: The employee has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care. The employee needs to care for a family member who has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care. The employee or family member has been the victim of domestic abuse, sexual assault, or harassment and needs to be absent from work for purposes related to such crime; or A public official has ordered the closure of the school or place of care of the employee's child or of the employee's place of business due to a public health emergency, necessitating the employee's absence from work.
Consistent with the HWFA, part-time temporary and seasonal employees of the City shall not carry forward more than forty-eight (48) hours of unused sick leave from one year to the next. Pueblo Municipal Code 6-6-5.5, 6-6-5 and 6-6-6 City employment as a temporary or seasonal employee means that the most you can expect to work is 1300 hours in a calendar year. Depending on the work schedule required by the hiring department, this means more time to spend with your family and/or doing other activities.
