Product Specialist

Bonitz, Inc. is looking for a dynamic Product Specialist to lead our Sports Flooring division across a regional footprint. The successful candidate will consult with clients on wood athletic floors, pad & pour systems, rubber and resilient athletic surfaces, synthetic turf, and stage & dance flooring for gymnasiums, athletic facilities, recreation centers, fitness studios, and performing arts venues. This role develops and sustains long-term relationships with general contractors, architects, designers, owners, athletic directors, facility managers, and internal team members across long sales cycles. This person is an expert at learning and understanding the sports flooring industry, prospecting new business, cultivating a pipeline of existing business, and managing multiple projects from start to finish in a fun, unique, team environment.

Position Essential Duties

  • Consult with clients on the full Bonitz Sports Flooring portfolio, including wood athletic floors (basketball, volleyball, pickleball), pad & pour systems, rubber athletic surfaces, resilient athletic flooring, synthetic turf, and stage & dance flooring.
  • Develop new business and manage existing client relationships across general contractors, architects, designers, owners, athletic directors, school districts, universities, recreation centers, fitness facilities, and performing arts venues.
  • Take ownership of projects from first contact through completion, communicating throughout to internal team members and leadership.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish in a fast-paced sales environment.
  • Provide detailed and accurate work throughout the process, including the ability to read blueprints, interpret athletic facility specifications, and use estimating software.
  • Visit ongoing projects regularly to verify correct materials and methods are being utilized, including proper subfloor preparation, moisture mitigation, game line layout, logo placement, and finish application.
  • Confirm quality of installations, production rates, schedule progress, and adherence to safety policies on every job site.
  • For large or complex projects (such as collegiate arenas, multi-court field houses, or multi-purpose performance spaces), schedule and lead pre-project planning meetings to review scope, drawings, court/field layouts, installation methods, production rates, schedule, and phasing with the appropriate team members.
  • Schedule and allocate daily manpower and other resources for all assigned projects to maintain required schedules while maximizing project efficiency.
  • Stay current on MFMA (Maple Flooring Manufacturers Association), DIN, and ASTM performance standards relevant to athletic surfaces.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings as needed and submit RFIs to general contractors as required.
  • Review and understand project documents including drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and construction schedules.
  • Develop and execute an individual business, sales, and marketing plan with strong general business acumen.
  • Work both in an office environment and in the field on active job sites.

Education / Experience and Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience preferred, ideally in sports flooring, athletic facility construction, or a related specialty trade.
  • Experience in the construction industry is strongly preferred; direct exposure to wood athletic flooring, synthetic athletic surfaces, or athletic facility renovation is a significant plus.
  • Familiarity with athletic facility end users K12 athletics, collegiate athletics, parks & recreation, private fitness, and performing arts is highly desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking, time management, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills, including estimating and project management software.
  • Proven ability to drive new business and build relationships with general contractors, architects, designers, owners, end users, and internal team members.
  • Maintain positive labor relations with installation crews and subcontractors.
  • Professional appearance and disposition.
  • Ability to work with initiative and independence, as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety.
  • Ability to take care of customer needs while following company procedures.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this position vary by day and are not based solely on a single workday. The role requires regular travel to active construction sites, including gymnasiums, field houses, and athletic facilities under construction or renovation. Standing, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing, bending, kneeling, and reaching are required. Must be able to lift and carry materials and samples up to 50 lbs occasionally.
