| Process Engineering | Decarbonization | Research | Attnang – Puchheim |

Location: 4800 Attnang-Puchheim, Vöcklabruck, Austria
Working hours: Full-time, 38,5h a week
Contract: Permanent Position
Salary: from € 70.000,-- to € 86.000,--

GKT combines over 90 years of engineering experience with a forward-looking mindset, turning complexity into scalable impact.

Do you have experience in the process development and process engineering of electrochemical systems and the ability to translate experimental results into robust mass and energy balances, simulation models, and scale-up concepts? Then this position offers you the opportunity to further develop CO₂ electrolysis processes towards pilot-scale implementation.

For the process engineering development and scaling of electrochemical CO₂ conversion processes, we are looking for a research-oriented professional with experience in process development, electrochemical systems, and technical scale-up. The position is located at the interface of electrochemistry, process engineering, equipment design, and piloting. The focus is on transferring new process concepts from the laboratory to pilot scale in the TRL 4 to 6 range.

  • Development and process engineering design of electrochemical CO₂ conversion processes
  • Transfer of laboratory results into robust scale-up concepts for pilot scale
  • Preparation and further development of mass and energy balances
  • Development, application, and interpretation of process simulations
  • Participation in the planning, construction, and commissioning of pilot plants
  • Derivation of technical requirements from experimental results in close coordination with electrochemistry, equipment design, and engineering
  • Evaluation of process options with regard to scalability, operability, technical feasibility, and development risks
  • Support in the further development of reactor, cell, and system concepts
  • Participation in techno-economic evaluations of the developed process routes

  • Completed university degree in process engineering, chemical engineering, process engineering, or a comparable field
  • Professional experience in process development, with electrochemical systems, and/or in CO₂ technologies
  • Experience in the process engineering analysis and design of electrochemical systems
  • Experience in preparing mass and energy balances
  • Experience with process simulations
  • Ability to translate experimental data into process models, design assumptions, and scale-up concepts
  • Experience with chemical simulation software, e.g. CHEMCAD, DWSIM, or Python
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office 365 and MS Project
  • English and German

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in electrochemical systems, process engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in CO₂ electrolysis
  • Experience in scaling up from laboratory to pilot plants
  • Experience working in TRL 4–6 development environments
  • Understanding of catalysis, membranes, mass transfer, and reactor design
  • Experience in the planning, construction, and commissioning of pilot plants
  • Experience in the structured handling of technical uncertainties in early development phases
  • Ability to carry out techno-economic evaluations of new process concepts
  • Experience with SAP
  • Strong hands-on mentality in dealing with pilot plants and technical development infrastructure

  • A green job in a future-relevant field of development
  • A working environment at the interface of research, scale-up, and piloting in the field of decarbonization
  • High level of professional responsibility in the development of new CO₂ process routes
  • The opportunity to help shape electrochemical technologies through to pilot application
  • Collaboration in an interdisciplinary technical environment
