The Construction Manager (CM) is responsible for providing field leadership, administrative supervision, and technical oversight on assigned construction projects. Reporting directly to the Project Manager (PM), the CM ensures the successful execution of projects in terms of safety, cost, schedule, and quality. This role involves managing manpower, coordinating activities, enforcing project standards, and maintaining effective communication with project stakeholders.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities Organizational Leadership
Provide overall field leadership and supervision, ensuring alignment with project objectives and standards
Manage and oversee direct and indirect manpower, ensuring timely availability of skilled labor to meet project demands
Enforce disciplinary actions when necessary to maintain project discipline and address non-compliance issues
Safety Awareness
Enforce adherence to project standards, specifications, and safety protocols to maintain a safe and productive work environment
Project Execution
Champion the workface planning process, including work breakdown structure and schedule logic definition, to optimize project efficiency
Ensure availability and management of tools, equipment, and materials required for construction activities
Coordinate with project stakeholders, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth project operations and timely delivery of materials and equipment
Collaboration
Communicate effectively with the PM to execute projects within budget and schedule constraints, promptly addressing any deviations
Provide regular progress reports to the PM and other project stakeholders, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and solutions
Quality Control
Monitor and address any issues related to quality control, ensuring work packages are completed to the required standards with minimal rework
Maintain accurate records of project activities, including manpower, equipment usage, and material deliveries
Critical Thinking
Understand and interpret contract documentation, project scope, and specifications, informing the PM of any changes or deviations
Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains, implementing best practices to enhance project delivery
Continuous Improvement
Actively participate in project debriefings and lessons learned sessions to incorporate feedback into future projects
Requirements
Demonstrated success in leading non-union, direct hire construction projects
Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors on complex construction projects
Engaged with key construction labor management personnel, fostering positive relationships
Ability to contribute effectively as a member of a project leadership team
High School Diploma or G.E.D
Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training (or equivalent) required prior to hire or within 30 days of onboarding
NCCCO Rigger Level I certification preferred; candidates without current certification may be considered if willing to obtain within 90 days of hire
