Summary The Fractional Controller position(s) at Vessel Advisors will support and report to the VP of Operations of Vessel Advisors and report to clients on a weekly and/or monthly basis as needed. These positions are
fractional
and
part-time
based on incoming projects.
This is a job post for our Independent Contractor bench team
that will then be considered for upcoming projects as they come through.
What We’re Looking For
Experience as a Controller or Senior Controller for growing companies with dynamic, ever-changing needs,
specific to the Construction industry.
Do not apply without relevant Construction industry experience.
Tech savvy. The right candidate already knows how to use cloud-based software and is an expert in accounting software programs as well as Excel and G Suite (Gmail, G Docs, G Sheets, etc). Ideally, the candidate has experience quickly learning and mastering new software. Knowledge in any of the following would be beneficial: Sage, QBO, Asana, Hubspot, Stripe, LastPass, Zoom, DocuSign, Bill.com, Expensify, Shopify/Big Commerce, and Harvest.
Incredibly proactive. They look for things that need to be done and they do them. They don't wait around until they are told to do something.
Organized. The major need is for someone who is deeply, obsessively organized and loves checklists.
Flexible. The right candidate needs to be comfortable when plans change when things go wrong. Someone with a cool head and a can-do attitude.
Positive. We want to hear what you're doing to make each day amazing!
Excellent communicator (both written – email, Slack, etc. – and verbal). 95% of the communication at Vessel Advisors is Slack, Teamwork, or email based.
Very fast learner. We’ll expose you to many clients in various industries, and if you can't pick up new concepts fast, you'll be frustrated.
Experienced with remote working. The right candidate has experience in a remote role prior to Covid-19.
Has discretion and can maintain confidentiality. Complete discretion and confidentiality is paramount.
Perfectionist. Our clients expect precision in the large volume of detailed transactions we manage for them each month.
Potential Job Responsibilities Support the VP of Operations and other Vessel Advisor Controllers and/or CFOs by handling accounting questions, financial reporting needs, month-end close management, ad-hoc advisory requests, and client correspondence. Includes daily escalations of accounting questions, weekly management of client processes and procedures, and complete ownership of the month-end close schedules ensuring a successful, on-time delivery of financial statements and financial advisory deadlines.
Communicate quickly and effectively with various internal and external stakeholders. Build trusted relationships with clients.
Potential Job Duties
Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
Maximizes return, and limits risk, on cash by minimizing bank balances; making investments.
Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; and recommending plans.
Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; and initiating corrective actions.
Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; and advising management on needed actions.
Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; and providing information to external auditors.
Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts; maintaining equipment inventories; and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
Work with clients to identify and achieve their financial goals; and guide financial planning and forecasting.
Support additional finance and HR projects as required by the Director of Operations and/or CEO.
Execute on day-to-day accounting needs, as needed.
Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing custom and client-specific engagement objectives, as needed.
Participates and eventually leads Financial Discovery Assessments.
Skills and Qualifications
8+ years of experience as a Chief Accounting Officer or Controller in Private Business
8+ years of financial software experience (Quickbooks required, other systems preferred such as Sage Intaact etc.)
