Position Summary We are seeking an Engineering Lead to support the VA.gov Platform Management team in delivering secure, scalable, and reliable platform capabilities supporting Veteran-facing digital services. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across platform operations, software delivery, infrastructure coordination, and engineering execution while partnering closely with product, operations, SRE, and DevOps teams. Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Platform Engineering
Lead engineering activities supporting VA.gov platform management initiatives and operational priorities
Design, build, maintain, and optimize platform capabilities supporting software development and delivery
Provide technical leadership across cloud infrastructure, application operations, integrations, and deployment pipelines
Support platform scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, and operational performance initiatives
Administer and manage configurations across development, testing, staging, and production environments
Support incident response, root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and operational issue resolution activities
Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to ensure platform stability and compliance
Drive engineering best practices, automation efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives
Delivery & Stakeholder Coordination
Partner with Product Leads, engineering teams, and government stakeholders to align technical execution with delivery priorities
Communicate technical risks, dependencies, constraints, and operational impacts across varying stakeholder audiences
Support Agile delivery activities including sprint planning, backlog refinement, technical estimation, and release coordination
Prepare technical documentation, system reports, operational metrics, and platform status updates
Participate in transition planning, knowledge transfer, and operational readiness activities
Coordinate across cross-functional teams to manage external dependencies and platform integration efforts
Qualifications
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, or related engineering/technical discipline required
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant engineering, platform operations, infrastructure, or software delivery experience
Additional relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of education requirements
Experience designing, building, and maintaining platforms supporting software development and operational delivery
Experience managing application configurations and supporting multiple operational environments
Strong understanding of cloud platforms, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery methodologies
Experience supporting large-scale enterprise or federal IT environments
Experience with Agile delivery methodologies and cross-functional engineering collaboration
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting VA.gov or other federal digital services platforms
Familiarity with SRE practices, observability tools, monitoring platforms, and operational support models
Experience with cloud-native technologies, Kubernetes, containerization, or infrastructure automation
Experience supporting organizational transitions, onboarding activities, or knowledge transfer initiatives
Experience using Jira, Confluence, GitHub, ServiceNow, or similar engineering collaboration tools
Working Conditions Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday. Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs. Must have reliable internet service that allows for effective telecommuting.
