What To Expect (Job Responsibilities)
Conduct random audits of medical records to ensure accurate coding assignments
Review and analyze medical records for appropriate diagnoses and procedures
Utilize encoding and abstracting systems to ensure complete and accurate coding
Maintain detailed records of audits, results, recommendations, and follow‑ups
Advise coding specialists on coding guidelines and practices as needed
What Is Required (Qualifications)
Associate degree in Health Information Management
3‑5 years of medical center outpatient coding experience (ICD10‑CM and CPT)
Knowledge and experience with electronic health records and health information management applications
Relevant certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or COC
Strong understanding of coding guidelines and practices
How To Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration or equivalent
Additional certifications in coding and health information management
Experience with 3M APC Software claim edits
Familiarity with CMS' National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) and Outpatient Code Editor (OCE) edits
Previous experience in a healthcare setting focused on coding quality improvement
