Engineering
Role Overview ORX is looking for a Technology Leader who is, first and foremost, a deeply technical engineer, someone who has spent years in the weeds of building production systems and now wants to apply that experience at the level of teams and strategy. This is not a role for someone who has drifted away from the code. You will be the most technically capable person in the room on most days, and the team will look to you to set the bar.
You will lead ORX's software development team across backend, frontend, data, and DevOps disciplines, owning the technical roadmap and ensuring the platform is built to a standard that holds up under real-world healthcare and enterprise demands. You will work directly with the CEO and product leadership to translate business direction into sound engineering decisions, and push back credibly when the tradeoffs don't make sense.
This role carries management responsibility, but the expectation is clear: your technical judgment is the foundation everything else is built on.
Mission Your mission is to lead the engineering team in building a platform that is reliable, secure, and architecturally sound, while maintaining the velocity a growing company needs. You will own the engineering culture, the technical standards, and the delivery cadence across the full stack.
What You'll Do
Own the end-to-end technical architecture of the ORX platform, spanning backend services, data infrastructure, AI-enabled workflows, and frontend delivery.
Lead and grow the software development team (backend, full stack, data, and DevOps) through hands‑on technical mentorship, code review, and clear engineering standards.
Make and document key architectural decisions, including technology selection, system boundaries, and integration patterns, with a clear view of long‑term consequences.
Drive engineering planning in collaboration with product: decompose roadmap items into sound technical designs, surface risks early, and hold the team accountable to quality.
Establish and maintain observability, reliability, and security practices across the platform, not as audits, but as embedded engineering culture.
Work directly with the development team leads to align cross‑functional technical decisions and avoid siloed delivery.
Represent engineering in business and client conversations where technical credibility matters – architecture reviews, compliance discussions, and enterprise onboarding.
Recruit and interview senior engineering candidates, with a strong instinct for technical depth over surface‑level credentials.
What You Bring
A minimum of 8 years of experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or technical lead capacity owning architecture and delivery.
A strong platform engineering background, you have built and operated complex distributed systems and can speak to the decisions you made and why.
Deep experience with Python‑based backend systems and cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred), with a working understanding of the full stack your team owns.
Proven ability to lead technical teams without losing your own sharpness – you review code, you contribute architecture, you debug production issues when it matters.
Experience designing systems that operate under healthcare, financial, or similarly compliance‑heavy constraints (security, auditability, data residency).
Experience with AI/ML‑adjacent infrastructure – RAG pipelines, vector stores, agent orchestration, not as a researcher but as someone who has built the services around them.
A track record of setting engineering standards that stick – not just writing them down, but building teams that actually follow them.
Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders; you can explain a system boundary or a tradeoff to a product manager without oversimplifying it.
Comfort operating in a fast‑moving, early‑stage environment where the roadmap is real but the ground shifts.
Nice to Have
Prior experience as a founding or early engineering leader at a startup.
Background with security and compliance basics (OWASP, SOC2 practices).
Prior experience with Graph and Neo4j.
How You'll Work You will report directly to the CEO and sit on the technical leadership team. Engineering decisions of consequence run through you. You will set the pace, the standards, and the tone for how the team builds, and you will be expected to model all three.
About ORX ORX is transforming how healthcare organizations use AI to elevate patient engagement, streamline operations, and modernize contact center workflows. Our team blends deep engineering expertise with an innovation‑first mindset to build products that directly improve the care experience.
Join ORX to help build the future of intelligent healthcare automation.
