Data Mining is a term frequently used in Computer Science.
It refers to the analysis of large data sets using methods that combine machine learning, statistics, artificial intelligence, and database systems. As such, it is considered an interdisciplinary process. The goals of data mining are to extract information (patterns, knowledge) from a dataset and structure it for further use.
The information gained from data mining can be used to increase revenue, improve customer relations, cut costs, reduce risks, etc. As such, it contributes to business value creation. Data mining techniques are constantly evolving and improving.
