About
Norton Interiors is a Washington, DC–based interior design and project management firm serving residential and commercial clients. The studio focuses on creating thoughtful, functional, and visually compelling spaces tailored to each client’s needs. Projects range from concept development and space planning to full‑scale renovations and furnishings. Norton Interiors values collaboration, clear communication, and a detail‑oriented approach throughout every phase of design and implementation. Role Description
As a Design Associate, you will support the Principal and Senior Designer across the full project lifecycle, keeping projects moving accurately and on schedule. This is a hands‑on, execution‑focused role built around order management, data entry, and the constant updating of project records, budgets, and schedules. The ideal candidate is a self‑starter who is highly organized, a quick learner, and brings a great attitude to a fast‑paced studio—someone who takes pride in precise, dependable work and stays on top of the details so nothing slips. Responsibilities
Order Management & Data Entry:
Enter orders, items, specifications, and pricing into our ordering software; ensure all CFAs are signed off on. Generate proposals for sign off and assist with order follow‑up and vendor outreach. Track status, confirm ship dates, log deliveries, backorders, and returns so records stay accurate and current. Project Data & Systems:
Maintain and update the CRM, project management software, and ordering software daily, ensuring every project's information is complete, consistent, and up to date across platforms. Budgets & Schedules:
Maintain and update project budgets and schedules, flagging changes and keeping the design and project team informed so timelines and spending stay on track. Scheduling & Coordination:
Schedule meetings, demos, and appointments for the Principal and Senior Designer, and coordinate calendars, logistics, and follow‑ups to keep the team organized. Sampling & Materials Library:
Retrieve samples locally, conduct showroom visits, and maintain a curated, labeled, and organized physical sample and materials library; order samples and prepare sample boards; and liaise with vendors to keep fabric, wallpaper, finish, and lighting collections up to date. Sourcing Support:
Source and request pricing on furnishings, wallcoverings, rugs, lighting, and building materials, building familiarity with trade vendors and industry product resources. Drafting & Presentation Support:
Assist the design team in producing CAD and SketchUp drawings—floor plans, furniture plans, and elevations—and help create presentations, renderings, and presentation materials that communicate Norton Interiors' design philosophy and product range. Organization:
Maintain the trade resource library and other company internal directories and documents, ensuring files are clean, consistent, and up to date. Site & Field Support:
Conduct field/site visits to verify measurements, assess project sites, and gather information for accurate space planning and design implementation. Installation & Coordination Support:
Assist in coordinating timelines and logistics with contractors, vendors, and installers; support installations and contractor walk‑throughs; and conduct quality assurance checks to ensure all elements meet Norton Interiors' standards of quality and craftsmanship. Marketing & Social Media:
Create and post social media content and maintain the social media calendar. Participate in a bi‑monthly meeting to review and showcase insights. Software & Tools:
Programs you may be required to use include SketchUp, Chief Architect, Canva, Adobe Suite, Google Suite, Google Drive, Asana, Studio Designer, Design Files, and any other industry software deemed necessary to perform the function of this role. Mandatory Qualifications
1–3 years of experience in interior design, project management, or a related field; relevant internship or coursework experience will be considered. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to manage high volumes of data entry and keep multiple projects' records accurate and current. Proficiency in—or strong willingness to learn—ordering, CRM, and project management software (e.g., Studio Designer, Asana), along with Google Suite and Microsoft Office. Working knowledge of space planning, furniture layout, and design implementation, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with team members, clients, and contractors. Availability to travel up to 25% of the time for sample retrieval, showroom visits, site visits, and installations; valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle required. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or a related field (associate's degree, certificate, or equivalent relevant experience also considered). Familiarity with the firm's core software stack (Studio Designer, SketchUp, Chief Architect, Canva, Adobe Suite, Asana). Understanding of trade furnishings, lighting, and materials vendors. A self‑starter who takes initiative, anticipates needs, and follows through without being asked. Highly organized and detail‑oriented, with a quick‑learning mindset and a positive, can‑do attitude. High energy and client‑focused, with the ability to engage enthusiastically and professionally with clients, vendors, and team members alike. Comfortable receiving and integrating direction and feedback from the Principal and Senior Designer. Able to navigate active project sites and lift up to approximately 30 lbs during sampling, deliveries, and installations. Perks & Benefits
Healthcare stipend, PTO and bonuses. Professional development and growth opportunities. Attendance at industry events and markets. Salary range: $55,000 – $68,000 commensurate with experience and ability to perform all required tasks. How to Apply
Submit the following materials to
Team@NortonInteriors.com . All items required in order to be considered. Your resume. A portfolio including examples of client‑facing presentations and/or renderings. A cover letter outlining your relevant experience and what excites you about this opportunity. Norton Interiors is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all qualified individuals. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
