Advance Practice Provider - Inpatient Neurosurgery

Job Description

The Advance Practice Provider in Inpatient Neurosurgery at VHC Health Physicians plays a vital role in the comprehensive care of patients admitted for neurosurgical evaluation, treatment, and recovery. Working under a PA Agreement with collaborating neurosurgeons, the PA provides direct inpatient care, coordinates multidisciplinary management, and ensures continuity of care from admission through discharge.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing daily rounds on neurosurgical inpatients, documenting progress notes, and updating care plans.
  • Managing pre- and post-operative neurosurgical patients, including monitoring neurological status, wound care, and pain management.
  • First assisting in OR for neurosurgical procedures
  • Performing bedside procedures at the oversight of supervising physician
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (CT, MRI, labs) and adjusting treatment plans accordingly.
  • Coordinating with neurosurgeons, hospitalists, intensivists, nursing staff, rehabilitation specialists, and case managers to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participating in discharge planning, patient/family education, and transitions of care to outpatient follow-up.
  • Responding to inpatient consults and acute neurosurgical issues, including emergent evaluations in the ICU or step-down units and ED.
  • Supporting quality improvement initiatives, risk management, and compliance programs specific to neurosurgical services.
