Design Manager - Water / Wastewater | AMP8 Capital Delivery
Location: Lancashire (Hybrid - 2-3 days in the office + site visits) Rate/Salary: Up to £600 per day or permanent options available
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Design Manager to join a major AMP8 water and wastewater capital delivery programme. You will play a key role in delivering projects that improve infrastructure and reduce spills to watercourses by up to 60%, supporting environmental and regulatory targets across the region.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will lead the design and technical delivery of complex water and wastewater projects across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and outline design through to detailed design and delivery.
You will manage multidisciplinary engineering teams (civil, mechanical, electrical and process), ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
This is a leadership role requiring strong technical capability, project management experience and the ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead design management on water and wastewater infrastructure projects Deliver engineering solutions across feasibility, outline and detailed design stages Manage multidisciplinary teams across civils, MEICA and process engineering Ensure projects meet programme, budget, carbon and quality targets Produce and review technical reports, drawings, calculations and specifications Prepare scopes, fee proposals and activity schedules Carry out design reviews and contribute to technical assurance processes Identify and manage project risks, issues and opportunities Promote health, safety and CDM compliance across all project activities Lead and contribute to HAZOP, HAZCON and HAZCOM studies Line manage and mentor junior engineers and design staff Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships Support framework delivery, KPI achievement and business development Drive innovation and continuous improvement in design solutions
Requirements
Degree qualified (BEng/BSc or equivalent) in an engineering discipline Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards Chartership Strong experience within the UK water or wastewater industry Proven experience delivering projects across feasibility, outline and detailed design Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams Knowledge of DSEAR, CDM Regulations, WIMES and relevant standards Strong project management and risk management experience Commercial awareness and contract management experience Experience delivering projects to time and budget Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
Desirable Skills
NEC accreditation or experience with NEC contracts Experience working on AMP frameworks Knowledge of water industry standards and specifications Experience in CSO and storage tank design
