Job Description As a Principal Software Engineer at Vertafore, you will play a strategic leadership role in the architecture and development of modern, high-impact web applications. You will work hands‑on with cutting‑edge front‑end technologies—especially React 19—while mentoring teams, defining technical direction, and driving engineering excellence across the organization. You will lead the delivery of scalable, resilient, and high‑performance systems, shape our design system and component architecture, and evolve our platform capabilities to support a diverse ecosystem of applications.
Core Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance React 19 applications using modern component patterns, concurrent features, and optimized rendering flows.
Innovate and craft clean code.
Help lead and mitigate the impact of technical decisions across the entire product.
Coordinate with Experience Design and software development teams in designing and implementing pragmatic and best‑fit solutions.
Takes ownership of vision and development of technologies, infrastructure, and common components across the tech stack.
Build and optimize rich UI experiences using React 19 concurrent features, TypeScript, and other modern tools.
Define and evolve design‑system‑driven component architecture.
Drive front‑end performance optimization, including React Compiler.
Mentor other developers and teams, fostering a community of practice across the development organization.
Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to ensure highest quality product platform.
Provide support for existing products and develop new products.
Contribute to defining and enforcing procedures, standards, and methodologies related to software development.
Troubleshoot code problems quickly and efficiently.
Interact with customers to gather insights and translate technical concepts.
Act as role model and mentor team members technically and culturally.
Lead, join in, and shepherd teams through implementation goals, fostering best practices in code creation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
5–10 years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on front‑end development using React or similar frameworks, TypeScript, Web APIs, and modern application architectures.
Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, able to diffuse tension and drive productive conversation internally and externally.
Strategic problem‑solver with analytical and critical thinking skills.
Innate curiosity about how things work; proactive in acquiring new skills and learning new tools and technologies to troubleshoot complex issues.
Ability to define, communicate, and enforce quality/technical team standards.
Comfortable making decisions across the product that support long‑term maintainability, reuse, security, and performance.
Ability to work with global, distributed teams.
In‑tune with high‑performance and high‑availability design and programming.
Highly proficient with multiple database technologies.
Strong in both design and implementation at an enterprise level.
Effective at helping non‑development departments communicate with development activities.
Clear communication to explain and defend design decisions.
Mentor, lead, and direct multiple teams in implementation best practices.
Lead collaboration with the business in designing pragmatic solutions.
Qualifications
Experience or exposure to Backend for Frontend (BFF) architectures.
Experience migrating legacy UI frameworks (Angular, ExtJS, WinForms) to modern React.
Experience working in an Agile environment.
Degree in computer science, engineering or related field.
5+ years experience in security best practices for software and data platforms.
5+ years experience with RESTful APIs.
5+ years experience with design, architecture, and implementation at an enterprise level.
Experience with Angular or similar technology.
5+ years experience with database technologies (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Cassandra).
Additional Requirements And Details
Travel required up to 10% of the time.
WFH Flexible.
Occasional lifting or moving up to 10 pounds.
Frequent repetitive hand and arm movements required to operate a computer.
Specific vision abilities required (close vision for computer work).
Frequent sitting and/or standing.
