About

Overview CGI has an immediate need for a Senior Oracle Database Administrator to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast‑paced team environment supporting one of the non‑profit organizations that collects, verifies, and maintains student enrollment and degree data for educational institutions. The Senior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for supporting software development teams within an agile‑driven environment, designing, implementing, administering, and optimizing enterprise database platforms, including Oracle, MongoDB, MariaDB, and SQL‑based databases. This role ensures the availability, performance, security, and integrity of mission‑critical data systems across cloud environments. The Sr. DBA serves as a technical leader, partnering with application, infrastructure, cloud, and security teams to support complex, high‑availability platforms and drive database best practices, automation, and continuous improvement.
Location: Lafayette, LA or Knoxville, TN office or Fairfax, VA; hybrid working model acceptable.
Responsibilities
Support Agile development teams by designing, administering, and optimizing Oracle, MongoDB, MariaDB, and SQL databases.
Ensure database availability, performance, security, and data integrity across cloud environments.
Oversee database installations, upgrades, patching, and configuration management.
Implement and maintain backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery strategies for mission‑critical systems.
Lead performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategy, and capacity planning.
Architect and manage high‑availability database solutions including clustering, Real Application Clusters (RAC), Data Guard, and cloud‑native high‑availability options.
Participate in disaster recovery (DR) exercises and ensure database platforms meet business continuity requirements.
Administer cloud‑based database services, storage architectures, networking configurations, and cloud security controls.
Implement automation and Infrastructure‑as‑Code for cloud database environments.
Partner with application, cloud, infrastructure, and security teams to support complex, high‑availability systems and application releases.
Provide technical leadership during incidents, root‑cause analysis, and long‑term remediation planning.
Develop automation for database provisioning, patching, maintenance, and monitoring.
Implement observability and alerting strategies to proactively identify performance issues.
Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and operational playbooks.
Guide engineers on database standards, best practices, and operational improvements.
Recent experience with Real Application Clusters (RAC), Data Guard, Exadata, or OCI cloud‑managed database platforms.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of enterprise database administration experience.
Strong experience with Oracle 19c and SQL‑based databases.
Recent hands‑on experience supporting OCI cloud and hybrid database platforms (AWS, Azure).
Expertise in performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery.
Experience with database security, backup, replication, and compliance.
Proficiency in automation, scripting, and Infrastructure as Code (SQL, Bash).
Solid Linux/Unix knowledge.
Solid understanding of System Global Area (SGA) and its relationship to database sizing, tuning, performance optimization, etc.
Hands‑on expertise with Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) and grid infrastructure, leveraging Oracle's database‑aware storage architecture to support highly available, scalable RAC, Exadata, and cloud‑hosted Oracle platforms.
Recent experience working in Agile, cross‑functional teams.
Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in automation, scripting, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
Experience administering AWS Redshift and Postgres databases.
Compensation CGI anticipates accepting applications for this position through May 31, 2026. The current compensation range for this role in the U.S. is $80,600.00 – $267,800.00.
