JOB SUMMARY: This position is based in Houston, TX reporting to the Director of Engineering. The Operational Data Analyst will provide analytical, reporting, and business intelligence solutions across the NEWSCO-Sawafi operational portfolio. This role supports Operations, Engineering, Sales, and Management teams through the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of operational and business data.
The Operational Data Analyst will play a key role in incident and failure investigations by analyzing field operational data, electronic drilling recorder (EDR) data, equipment performance data, and personnel reports to identify root causes, trends, and corrective actions. Findings will be communicated through detailed reports and presentations to both internal and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will develop and maintain analytical tools, dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and reporting systems that support operational excellence, product optimization, and strategic business decisions. This role will also be responsible for establishing and improving processes, systems, and technologies that enhance data quality, accessibility, and analytical capabilities throughout the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead technical projects involving data solutions, process improvements, and reporting initiatives from concept through implementation with minimal supervision.
Develop and maintain tools, reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
Support Operations and Engineering teams in the analysis, investigation, and root cause determination of operational failures, incidents, and equipment performance issues.
Analyze operational, equipment, and personnel data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
Assist in the development and implementation of enterprise data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
Identify, investigate, and resolve data quality and integrity issues within source systems.
Implement testing, build management, and version control best practices for analytical solutions.
Maintain and enhance existing reports, dashboards, databases, and analytical tools.
Integrate new data management technologies, automation tools, and software solutions into existing business processes.
Provide analytical, technical, and reporting support to Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Management teams.
Collaborate with Engineering and Operations personnel worldwide to support business objectives and data-driven decision making.
Deliver training, share best practices, and provide mentorship as needed.
Promote the adoption of new technologies, methodologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Effectively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders across multiple business functions and organizational levels.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in applied science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field required.
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree or six (6) years of relevant experience with an associate degree.
Basic understanding of oil and gas drilling operations.
Valid driver's license required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Engineering, or related discipline.
Five (5) or more years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, operational analytics, or a related field.
Experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, industrial, energy, or oilfield service operations through data-driven decision making.
CORE SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, including dashboard development, data modeling, DAX, and report automation.
Experience designing and implementing KPI frameworks, operational performance metrics, and executive-level reporting systems.
Experience performing root cause analysis, failure investigations, and incident analysis utilizing operational, equipment, and personnel data.
Proficient at extracting, manipulating, correcting, and analyzing data (Access, Excel and Power BI).
Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL queries, data warehousing concepts, and data governance practices.
Familiarity with directional drilling, MWD/LWD systems, downhole tools, or other oilfield service equipment.
Experience leading cross-functional projects involving operations, engineering, and business stakeholders.
Exposure to predictive analytics, machine learning applications, statistical modeling, or artificial intelligence tools.
Experience creating and implementing data collection, workflow automation, and business process improvement initiatives.
Proven ability to communicate technical findings and recommendations to both technical and executive audiences.
