This position will be working throughout the ESD 113 Region. The ESD 113 Region includes school districts throughout Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, and Thurston counties. This position is scheduled for 7 hours/day and 180 days/year.

Purpose Statement The job of Licensed Practical Nurse is done for the purpose of implementing, managing, and delivering school health services to school districts and/or programs or agencies, under the direction of the School Nurse. The school nurse scope of practice is defined by law and regulation and professional school nursing standards. Essential Functions • Assists the School Nurse in performing nursing assessments for the purpose of identifying problems, referring for proper treatment, and complying with legal requirements. • Collaborates with the School Nurse to coordinate and implement mandated health screenings for the purpose of facilitating follow-up medical care and ensuring access to health care providers. • Implements student health plans and emergency plans as directed by the School Nurse for the purpose of addressing student health needs and implementing prescribed health care. • Maintains accurate records pertaining to medication and treatment administration, immunizations, screening results, and illness/injury records for the purpose of providing documentation, conveying information, and collecting data required. • Manages first aid, medication and specialized medical treatment (oral suctioning, catheterization, illness referrals, etc.) within the LPN scope of practice for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and injured children. • Participates in training on various health related subjects (e.g. CPR, disaster preparedness, child abuse, health education, etc.) for the purpose of promoting a healthy lifestyle and acting as a resource to students, teachers, and other school personnel. • Serves as an advocate for the health rights of students for the purpose of conveying and receiving information, assessing student health status, and serving as a professional liaison between the school, family, and health provider community. • Travels as needed for the purpose of performing the essential functions of the position. Other Functions • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting the completion of departmental work. • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements:Knowledge Knowledge is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures; stages of child development; pediatric and family nursing practices; community health concepts; and pertinent policies, codes, regulations and laws. Skills Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; administering first aid; handling hazardous materials/waste; operating equipment used in clinical settings; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. Ability Ability is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; dealing with distraught, angry or hostile individuals; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; and working with detailed information/data. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the organization's services. Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 40% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment. Education and Experience Education (Required): Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in job-related area. Equivalency: None specified. Experience: Job-related experience within a specialized field is required.
