Registered Nurse - Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for delivering professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through the use of the American Society of Post Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) Standards. The nursing roles during this phase focus on providing a transition from a completely anesthetized state to one requiring less acute interventions, ensuring optimal patient outcomes from pediatric to geriatric age groups. Responsibilities
Perform initial assessments of patients, differentiating the severity of patient problems and prioritizing care based on evaluations and medical records. Develop and coordinate a comprehensive plan of care based on ongoing assessments and knowledge of anesthetic agents and post-anesthesia patient care. Initiate appropriate nursing interventions, including maintaining a patent airway and optimal oxygen saturation, while utilizing established modalities of pain management. Collaborate and communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare providers. Continuously evaluate patient progress toward achieving PACU discharge guidelines, revising the plan of care as necessary.
Schedule This position requires a flexible schedule including 2-hour shifts and 2 twelve-hour shifts or a straight three twelve-hour shifts, totaling between 36-40 hours per week, with a call component. Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
Completion of an accredited registered nurse program. Previous experience in PACU and Critical Care is preferred. Current Pennsylvania RN licensure is required. Must meet American Heart Association standards for BLS, ACLS, and PALS, renewing every two years.
