The Safety Coordinator supports safe and compliant mining operations by working with operations, maintenance, and contractors to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and site safety standards. This role provides field-based safety support, guidance, and oversight to help identify risks, drive corrective actions, and maintain a safe working environment. The position works closely with site leadership, employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure safety programs are implemented effectively and continuously improved. Position Responsibilities • Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with all site safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements, including MSHA standards. • Safety Coordination: Work with operations and maintenance leadership to implement and maintain safety programs aligned with industry standards. Provide guidance and support on inspections, investigations, and required reporting. • Field Audits & Inspections: Conduct and document regular field inspections and audits. Follow up on identified hazards and corrective actions to completion. • Incident Investigation: Participate in incident investigations. Provide coaching and support to supervision. Track and follow up on corrective actions. • Regulatory Coordination: Interface with state and federal regulatory agencies. Coordinate inspections, complaint visits, and responses. Review violations and assist with resolution or contest decisions. • Contractor Safety: Support the contractor safety program. Participate in inspections of contractor equipment and work areas. Coordinate contractor safety communications. • Safety Committees & Audits: Organize and support safety committee activities. Conduct risk audits, prepare reports, and track action items. • Safety Programs & Reporting: Track safety trends and provide reporting to improve performance. Manage Good Catch reporting and corrective actions. • Procedures & Documentation: Assist in development and revision of safety procedures. • Training & Meetings: Attend and participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and operational meetings as required • General HSE Support: Support other HSE functions including training, environmental, health, and security as needed. Assist with industrial hygiene sampling and studies. • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support site safety and operational needs Position Requirements Required • Minimum 2+ years of mining or heavy industrial experience • Working knowledge of MSHA regulations and state mining requirements • Experience with incident investigations, inspections, and safety audits • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written • Ability to work effectively with employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies • Self-motivated with the ability to identify gaps and drive corrective actions • Valid driver's license Preferred • Experience supporting contractor safety programs • Experience working directly with regulatory inspections and compliance actions • Familiarity with safety reporting systems and data tracking tools Work Environment / Physical Demands • Work is primarily performed in active mining and operational areas with some office work required • Frequent walking on uneven ground and working around heavy equipment • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. • Exposure to hot, cold, and variable weather conditions • Ability to kneel, crawl, stoop, and work in confined spaces when required All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check.
