Description: Under general supervision, specializes in the performance of computerized tomographic radiological procedures on patients. May perform general diagnostic radiology examinations. Explains examination procedures to patients and prepares them for the examination. Reviews clinical data on requisitions and performs appropriate examinations. Obtains additional information about the patient's medical history as necessary. Prepares procedure rooms and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies. Analyzes anatomical structures of patients, sets up equipment, and performs the CT scan. Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied. Administers intravenous contrast media, including the utilization of power injectors. Monitors patients for possible reactions as appropriate to the study and provides immediate care if a reaction occurs. May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for procedures. Ensures adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored. Assists radiologists in performing complex sterile diagnostic procedures such as biopsies. Performs all imaging procedures by demonstrating the principles of radiation protection. Resolves any/all image exceptions and ensures high-quality image delivery into PACS. Completes all study indexing in the Radiology Information System. Reviews and confirms clinical protocols with radiologists before performing studies. Demonstrates team member standards of excellence, including open communication and positive attitude. Performs all documentation in the medical record and within the radiology information system to support clinical and billing functions. May work in a fixed unit or in an ambulatory mobile unit. Potential exposure to radiation, high-voltage equipment, and contagious patients may occur. May occasionally lift and/or move equipment and/or patients exceeding 10 lbs. Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards, and behaviors. Must possess qualities such as being self-directed, flexible, and committed to the team concept.
