The Department of Revenue is seeking a self-motivated application developer to join our team to analyze and enhance tax processing software. This is an excellent opportunity to work on challenging projects within mainframe, transaction processing systems. This Senior Applications Developer position will develop and maintain major tax programs for the State of Nebraska. Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for all phases of application development and maintenance; communicates with system users to determine processing needs; researches system enhancements; performs design and analysis of computer systems. This position will perform at an advanced level to analyze, create, and modify complex computer applications of considerable size and scope. This position will be responsible for performing this full range of duties plus any related work as assigned. Systems Design & Implementation: Prepares system specifications; develops the functional design; develops implementation plans; prepares system documentation. Develops and debugs program code: Performs alpha/unit testing and participates in system program testing; prepares program documentation; and writes code to produce ad hoc reports as requested. Qualifications / Requirements Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications; programming experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis. Preferred: Knowledge of Nebraska tax programs and knowledge of tools and technologies that are, or might be, used by the Nebraska Department of Revenue. These technologies include: COBOL, JCL, TSO, AMI DevX Workbench, SQL, Excel VBA, and Java. Applicants are not required to have knowledge of all the technologies listed above. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Our ideal candidate will have experience with systems analysis and design; software development principles and methods; software system testing procedures; system documentation; database design; troubleshooting and debugging complex computer applications; excellent written and verbal communication skills; work effectively in a team environment; show initiative; and demonstrate good judgement.
