This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health-Education, Training and Research (ETR) Division- Crafts-Farrow State Hospital, Building 3, 7901FarrowRd, Columbia, SC 29203. As the Registered Nurse, working under the supervision of the Director of Education, Training and Research (ETR), plan, provide and evaluate educational programs for the staff of South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Office of Mental Health (SCBHDDOMH). Programs include orientation of new employees, on-going staff education and evaluation of staff competences.
Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse:
Implement and teach educational offerings/programs for nursing, clinical and support staff to include New Employee Orientation and enter the data into the SCEIS database. Conduct training on the Electronic Health Record used in Inpatient Services for all new nursing staff, teaching them how to navigate the system and write notes to meet regulatory and accrediting standards. Design, develop, and revise course content for new employee orientation, continuing education and in-service to teach OMH employees to care for the patient population based on identified learning needs. This includes revision of the nursing curriculum and competency program to meet regulatory and accrediting standards. Evaluate the effectiveness of educational offerings/programs. Conduct follow-up with newly hired nursing staff to help facilitate resolution of any educational issues or concerns that they may express. Design and develop training programs for Inpatient Services to meet special program needs. Conduct orientation for student nurses who are affiliated with OMH and assist in recruiting efforts by providing insight and experience about being a nurse at OMH. Consult with employees upon request regarding clinical and administrative issues.
Complete all required annual trainings, attend assigned committee meetings and assist other trainers in performance of their duties as assigned or as time permits. Minimum and Additional RequirementsGraduation from an accredited school of nursing. Licensed as a registered nurse by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing (some positions may require certification in Basic Life Support and/or possession of a valid driver's license. Additional Requirements: Must be able to move freely around the facilities/campuses. Be able to stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend, push, climb stairs and lift up to thirty (30) pounds. May be required to work occasional off shift or weekends. Preferred QualificationsBilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language are a plus).

Be flexible to work on all tours of duty when assigned. Maintain certification in Child/Infant/Adult CPR with AED, First Aid, MANDT and MAPS. Have the ability to work within the department of nursing philosophies and mission.
