This position is located at APC Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, AL.
Job Summary The Communications Specialist for Alabama Power’s PR Creative and Content team plays a critical role in elevating company storytelling through high-impact visual communications, multimedia content, and executive-level presentations. The role combines creative design expertise with strong strategic messaging skills to translate complex information into clear, on-brand, visually compelling communications for executive leaders, internal partners, and broad customer audiences.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing, Graphic Design, Media Production, or related field.
Experience
3+ years of experience in corporate communications, content creation, multimedia storytelling, visual communications, or related field.
Demonstrated experience in graphic design, presentation design, and multimedia content creation.
Experience translating technical or complex information into engaging, audience-friendly visual and written communications.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and PowerPoint with strong visual layout and presentation design skills.
Experience producing and editing video content for digital, social, or internal communication platforms.
Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to write for a variety of audiences and platforms.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to produce quality work under pressure and pivot seamlessly if direction changes.
Experience with photography, motion graphics, or animation is a plus.
Experience working in a highly regulated, utility, public sector, or infrastructure-focused organization is a plus.
Portfolio or examples of visual communication, presentation, and multimedia work preferred.
Major Job Responsibilities Creative Development & Visual Execution
Design visually compelling communication materials, including executive-level presentations, infographics, digital graphics, and campaign assets.
Develop polished layouts and branded creative assets that reflect executive-level quality and consistency.
Apply visual storytelling principles to enhance audience engagement, simplify complex information, and strengthen message retention.
Create and edit multimedia content, including video and digital storytelling assets for internal and external communication channels.
Ensure all creative assets align with brand standards, accessibility requirements, and communication objectives.
Strategic Communications & Content Development
Translate complex, technical, or business information into clear, digestible messages for broad and executive audiences.
Tailor messaging and creative execution to fit diverse audiences while maintaining consistency in tone, voice, and brand identity.
Organize content into a logical storyline that supports understanding and decision-making.
Focus on clarity, prioritization, and relevance rather than volume of information.
Presentation Design And Executive Communications
Design options for high-quality, executive-ready presentations and visual communication materials in partnership with leaders and stakeholders.
Maintain high standards for visual consistency, formatting, branding, and storytelling across all presentation materials.
Video Production & Digital Content
Support video-based communication efforts by editing, producing, and adapting content for use across multiple channels while optimizing format, tone, and creative execution for each platform.
Collaborate with creative, content, and brand teams to develop visually cohesive campaigns and multimedia communication initiatives.
Collaboration & Deadline Management
Manage multiple inputs and deadlines with strong organization and time management.
Deliver high-quality, executive-ready products under tight timelines with minimal rework.
Work closely with the Creative and Content team as well as internal teams and leadership to understand business objectives and translate them into compelling visual and written communications.
Serve as a communications resource for departments seeking messaging, presentation, and creative storytelling support.

Strong visual communication and design skills resulting in clean, organized, and engaging materials.
Strong synthesis skills – ability to distill complex information into clear messages.
Experience creating multimedia and video content for digital communication channels.
Strong creative judgment with the ability to balance visual appeal, brand standards, and strategic messaging.
Strong attention to detail with excellent editing, formatting, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Comfortable balancing strategy with execution – able to move from concept development to polished delivery efficiently.
Strong collaboration, consulting, and relationship-building skills across teams and leadership levels.
