Eligibility at GS-7
Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level. Experience must involve IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software or hardware problems, coordinative teleconference and distance learning activities, installing new or upgraded software, and maintaining access control systems with knowledge of network standards and protocols.
Education: Successful completion of one (1) full year of graduate education (equivalent to a master’s degree) in a related field such as computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for Information Technology Specialist work.
Superior Academic Achievement: Possess a Bachelor’s Degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor’s degree within the next 9 months and possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on courses completed in the major field or during the final two years of the curriculum; or election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. The degree must be in the specified fields or provide a minimum of 24 semester hours in those fields and involve development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
Eligibility at GS-9
Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level, including IT customer service and support, installing and distributing new or upgraded software, converting user-developed content into web pages, installing routine updates and patches, and maintaining access control systems.
Education: Possess one of the following types of education in a related field (computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management): a master’s or equivalent graduate degree; or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
Career Transition Assistance
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) and Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) provide eligible displaced Federal or Department of Justice employees with selection priority, subject to meeting all qualification requirements and scoring at least 85 on established ranking criteria.
