The Shift Manager is responsible for leading restaurant operations during assigned shifts by delivering exceptional guest service, ensuring food safety and quality standards, and supporting the development of team members. This role provides direct supervision to hourly employees, maintains a clean and organized restaurant, and ensures all operational procedures are followed to achieve company goals for sales, labor, food cost, and guest satisfaction.

The Shift Manager serves as the leader on duty by coaching employees, resolving guest concerns, monitoring productivity, and maintaining a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment. This position is expected to lead by example, uphold Slim Chickens' core values, and consistently execute operational standards while driving efficiency and profitability.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise all restaurant operations during assigned shifts.
  • Deliver an outstanding guest experience by ensuring fast, friendly, and accurate service.
  • Coach, train, and develop team members through real-time feedback and positive reinforcement.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
  • Monitor food quality, product presentation, and speed of service to meet Slim Chickens standards.
  • Complete opening, shift change, and closing procedures accurately.
  • Manage labor by deploying team members effectively and controlling overtime.
  • Monitor inventory levels and minimize waste through proper product handling and portion control.
  • Handle guest complaints professionally and resolve issues promptly to promote guest loyalty.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized restaurant environment for guests and employees.
  • Ensure accurate cash handling, deposits, drawer counts, and adherence to loss prevention procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with the General Manager and Assistant General Manager regarding shift performance, staffing, and operational concerns.
  • Assist with employee scheduling, onboarding, training, and performance coaching as assigned.
  • Maintain a positive culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of restaurant leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
