About the role: The Business Analyst supports the Demand Planning and Business Analytics teams by analyzing booking, trip, and demand trends to help optimize trip assortment, pricing, and inventory decisions. This role combines analytical problem-solving with operational execution and requires strong attention to detail, systems fluency, and proactive communication.
What you’ll be doing:
Analyze current trip offerings to identify opportunities and risks
Recommend trip cancellations, conversions, additions, and other assortment changes
Support rooming inventory processes and releases based on demand and projected needs
Support pricing decisions through data gathering, analysis, and recommendations
Respond to inquiries from Yield Operations and cross-functional teams
Conduct ad hoc analyses and prepare presentations as needed
What you’ll need to be successful:
Advanced Excel and data manipulation skills
Advanced analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or a related field
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented and comfortable working across multiple systems
Highly organized and able to manage multiple deadlines
Able to work independently and collaborate effectively across teams
Quick learner with a high level of curiosity and adaptability
Familiarity with AI-assisted analysis, automation, or coding tools is a plus
Work environment:
On-Site, Berkeley, CA
4 days in-office, 1 day work from home
About the Departments: The Demand Planning team is a smart, analytical, data-driven team with high throughput. The team is super inquisitive - eager to dig into the data (trip, booking, guest) to attract more guests and improve our trip assortment. The Demand Planning team works closely with Trip Development and our Hotel & Rooming Operations teams to fulfill demand by increasing our capacity in-season and for future seasons. They also work closely with the Yield Operations team who uploads and updates data in our system to ensure our trips are bookable, priced correctly, and contain relevant and accurate information for our Sales & Marketing teams.
Similarly, the Business Analytics team is a highly analytical and business-oriented team focused on helping Backroads answer complex, high-impact questions with data. The team partners across Yield, Demand Planning, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Trip Development, FP&A, Technology, and other functions to frame business problems, identify trends and opportunities, and translate analysis into clear recommendations that support better decision-making. The team works on a wide range of strategic topics, including pricing, marketing effectiveness, operational planning, staffing demand, and long-range business planning. Business Analytics combines rigorous analysis with strong cross‑functional partnership, helping leaders understand tradeoffs, evaluate scenarios, and make informed decisions that improve both guest experience and business performance.
