Scope of Position A Sr. Computer Vision engineering position in the Corning Environmental Technologies (CET) Division Engineering Measurements & Controls group that includes development, assembly, testing and deployment of optical and computer vision‑based measurement systems in support of the metrology, inspection and testing of Corning CET products. Work as part of a team to manage the transfer of technology from development to manufacturing. Day to Day Responsibilities Work with a variety of cross‑functional groups (Development, Quality, IT, Purchasing, Operations) to define, develop and implement optical and computer vision‑based measurement and instrumentation systems. Transfer technology from early‑stage development to a product suitable for use in manufacturing. Leverage external suppliers for key technologies or core competencies such as system integration. Define scopes of work, competitively quote when appropriate, issue purchase orders, track supplier work and approve invoices. Design experiments and analyze data to identify and implement improvements to measurement systems or production processes. Create/update documentation for release to production including machine specifications, operating procedures and drawing packages. Train engineering, maintenance and operations staff on how to use and maintain measurement systems. Provide remote and on‑site troubleshooting using data and performance analysis of installed systems. Travel Requirements 20‑40% travel 1 day to several weeks of travel may be required Hours of Work/Work Schedule/Flex Time Monday‑Friday 8am‑5pm, 40+ hrs./week Required Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Optics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering a plus) Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience with machine vision metrology equipment. Training or hands‑on experience with vision systems is required. Desired: Master’s or PhD in Physics. Required Experience/Skills 3 years or more experience in computer vision system development (optics, lighting, cameras, image acquisition, image analysis, laser, 3D measurement). Fundamental knowledge of physical optics (principles of optics). Knowledge of image processing algorithms (blob analysis, edge finding, morphology, feature extraction, classification, metrology). Microsoft Visual Studio programming (C# and Python strongly preferred). Experience with machine learning and AI technologies, including CNNs. Systems engineering and integration. Digital signal processing. Experience with electrical/optical/mechanical installations, including system checkout and troubleshooting. Strong communication and presentation skills (MS Office programs). Data retrieval, plotting and analysis (primarily using Microsoft Excel). Desired Experience/Skills Experience with image processing development packages such as Halcon, Matrox Inspector, NI Vision, Cognex, Keyence, or MATLAB image processing toolbox. Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch. Control systems (PLCs). Process engineering knowledge; experienced with design of experiments, statistical analysis and process improvement. Experience with metrology, inspection and product quality in support of manufacturing. Motion control – ability to integrate motion on imaging platforms. High‑performance computing – familiarity with HPC systems. Soft Skills Ability to interact effectively with customers & coworkers and to work independently. Effective communication. Results‑oriented, quick learner, and able to multi‑task effectively. Immigration Sponsorship This position does not support immigration sponsorship. Compensation The range for this position is $89,134.00–$122,559.00 assuming full‑time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
