About

Data Architect for Enterprise Analytics - responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and optimizing data management and architecture strategies that align with business needs. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, healthcare IT, business management or a related field; OR high school diploma or equivalent plus six (6) years of experience in computer science, information technology, engineering, healthcare IT, business management, or a related field. This position may require additional certification in support of the responsibilities of the position, which will be provided by WVUHS Information Technology. Certification completion will be required within four months of formal certification training completion. Internal employees must meet all mandatory competencies in current position to qualify for promotion within IT. Two (2) years of experience in database architecture, data management life cycle, data warehouse solutions, and cloud solutions, including relational database design, query optimization, and ETL processing. Two (2) years of experience in deploying and managing SSIS packages and processing real-time data. Two (2) years of experience in designing and implementing enterprise-wide imaging solutions, including integration with healthcare IT systems such as EMR/EHR, HIS, and CIS. Two (2) years of experience in diagnosing and resolving issues related to ETL processing and system integration across multiple platforms. Two (2) years of experience managing large volumes of structured and unstructured data ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with healthcare regulations and industry standards. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, healthcare IT or an advanced degree. Ten (10) years of experience in data architecture, specifically within healthcare environments, involving complex healthcare data systems and solutions. Experience working with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and real‑time data integration in a healthcare environment. Extensive experience with population health management, clinical data modeling, and predictive analytics in healthcare. Experience in managing and optimizing healthcare interoperability solutions, including HL7 FHIR and API‑based integrations. Prior experience leading large‑scale data migration or system integration projects in healthcare settings, such as transitioning legacy systems to cloud‑based or modern data platforms. Experience with healthcare‑specific business intelligence tools (e.g., Epic’s Clarity, Cerner’s HealtheIntent, Tableau in healthcare contexts). Strong track record of ensuring data governance and adherence to regulatory frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH) in previous roles. Experience with integrating imaging systems with other healthcare IT systems such as Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR), Health Information Systems (HIS), and Clinical Information Systems (CIS). Experience working with vendors, managing contracts, and coordinating with external partners for system procurement and support. Proficiency in managing large volumes of data, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with regulations. Understanding of clinical workflows and how imaging systems support and enhance these workflows. Ability to design systems that align with and improve these processes. Proven track record of leading complex IT projects related to imaging systems, from planning and design through implementation and support. Knowledge of and experience with emerging imaging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) for image analysis, machine learning algorithms, and cloud‑based imaging solutions. Ability to develop and implement long‑term strategic plans for imaging systems that align with organizational goals and clinical needs. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in medical imaging, including advancements in imaging modalities, technologies, and best practices. Active participation in industry organizations, conferences, and professional networks to stay current with industry developments and build relationships with other experts. Core Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Planning and Design: Create and implement a strategic plan for data management that aligns with the organization’s overall IT and healthcare goals. Design scalable and interoperable data management solutions that meet clinical and operational needs while supporting integration with other healthcare IT systems. Assess emerging data solution technologies and tools to ensure the organization leverages the most effective and innovative solutions. Problem Identification and Resolution: Provide high‑level technical support for complex issues related to data and analytics systems. Troubleshoot and resolve system problems efficiently. Oversee regular maintenance and updates to ensure optimal system performance and security. System Management: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data management solutions including system architecture, configuration details, and user manuals. Prepare and present reports on system performance, project progress, and strategic initiatives to senior management and other stakeholders. Project Coordination: Manage data‑related projects from conception through deployment, including system upgrades, new implementations, and technology rollouts to ensure the delivery of high‑quality products and services. Participate in enterprise budgets, timelines, and resource planning. Team Building: Foster collaboration, provide training, encourage innovation and mentor team. Foster a cohesive, motivated, and high‑performing team that drives the successful implementation and management of database and analytical systems. Training & Education: Develop and train analytics staff on database best practice methodologies. Leadership: Collaborate with clinical staff, IT teams, and management to understand data requirements and ensure that solutions meet organizational requirements. Ensure database systems comply with relevant regulations and standards, including HIPAA. Innovation and Improvement: Identify opportunities for innovation throughout the data management life cycle. Propose and implement enhancements to improve database efficiency, capabilities and governance. Monitor system performance and gather feedback to drive continuous improvement throughout the data management life cycle. Policy and Procedure Development: Create and enforce policies and procedures related to data management, security, and usage. Ensure that policies are followed by all users and that systems operate according to established guidelines. Risk Management: Assess potential risks associated with imaging systems, including security vulnerabilities and compliance issues. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks and ensure system reliability and data protection. Physical Requirements Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties through the work shift. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Skills and Abilities Analyze Information: Assess large amounts of data to determine how software applications and systems should be procured, installed, and configured. Additional Job Description Deep hands‑on experience architecting solutions within Microsoft Fabric, including OneLake, Lakehouse and Warehouse items, Data Factory pipelines, and Dataflows Gen2, along with strong SQL, DAX, and PySpark proficiency for modeling and transformation. Strong understanding of modern data architecture patterns—including medallion architecture, dimensional modeling, and semantic models—to support scalable, performant enterprise reporting in Power BI. Working knowledge of Epic clinical and operational workflows and data structures (Clarity/Caboodle), with sufficient operational fluency in healthcare metrics (e.g., length of stay, readmissions, provider productivity). Experience partnering with clinical, operational, and analytics stakeholders to translate requirements into sound architecture, identifying and resolving data quality issues at the source rather than downstream. Strong data governance expertise, including data lineage, access control, and stewardship standards across Epic source systems and Microsoft Fabric environments. Experience with CI/CD practices for Fabric/Power BI deployments and familiarity with healthcare data security and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA).
