About

The Baltimore VA Medical Center, in partnership with the University of Maryland School of Medicine, is seeking a highly qualified Gastroenterologist with expertise in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases OR Advanced Endoscopy for a full-time faculty appointment. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills in managing gastrointestinal disorders and possess a commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and research. Key Responsibilities:

*Provide comprehensive care to veterans with gastrointestinal conditions, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.

*Perform a range of endoscopic procedures.

*Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers to develop individualized treatment plans for patients.

*Participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows through teaching, mentorship, and clinical supervision.

*Engage in clinical research initiatives and contribute to scholarly activities within the field of gastroenterology.

*Participate in on-call rotation and inpatient gastroenterology consultations.

*Work closely with the VA administration and University of Maryland School of Medicine faculty to ensure alignment with institutional goals.

Note: Experience in Inflamatory Bowel Disease and Advanced Endoscopy is a plus.

Qualifications:

*MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.

*Board certification in Gastroenterology.

*Eligible for licensure in the state of Maryland.

*Demonstrated commitment to patient care, education, and research.

*Experience with or willingness to engage in clinical trials or other research projects is preferred.

Academic Appointment:

This position includes a faculty appointment at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, with rank commensurate with experience and academic achievement. The successful candidate will have opportunities for advancement in the academic track through research, teaching, and service contributions.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment
reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP
application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility
period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after
review of the EDRP application.

Incentive authorized (for qualified candidates)

Pay: Competitive salary (350K to 400K), annual performance bonus up tp 15K, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

More Compensation Details:

Receive annual base pay increases, when signed into federal law (as of 2024, the 5-year average increase was 2.92%), biennial within-grade or "step" longevity increases, and biennial market pay increases resulting from additional credentials, promotions, or local market changes.
