Director, Design Engineering

Celestica Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and self-driven Technical Leader to manage the Celestica Market-leading Hardware Solutions Design Team in San Jose. The Director will be at the forefront of the industry, leading the design and development of complex, first-to-market End-to-End Hardware Platform solutions, often involving experimental ASICs and prototypes across storage, compute, and networking. The successful candidate will lead a design and development group and will be responsible for engineering assignments related to hardware products as well as systems including development of new products, updates to existing products, or sustaining current products. The candidate will work closely with Product Marketing, Procurement, and Software teams to drive product definitions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical leader and consultant to a high-performance engineering team.
  • Leads development strategies and implements operational policies and directives.
  • Drives continuous process and design efficiency improvements, including common design libraries, Design for Cost (DFC), and automation initiatives.
  • Establish and conduct testing routines, develop or execute project plans, budgets, and schedules, and document work and test results.
  • Work with suppliers and partners to manage the design, validation, qualification, and fabrication of complex hardware platforms.
  • Engage with customers and suppliers on product roadmaps and support.
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the team operates efficiently and possesses the necessary expertise.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:

  • Over 15 years of experience designing and developing high-speed, board-level hardware.
  • Four-plus years of managerial/leadership experience.
  • Deep expertise in high-power, high-performance CPU and switching solutions, SerDes, PAM4, SI/PI analysis, power systems and thermal management.
  • Expertise in server architecture, data center hardware, and high-speed interfaces (PCIe Gen5/6, DDR5/6).
  • Able to manage engineering experts in electrical, mechanical, thermal, signal integrity, compliance, and CAD.
  • Experience with the hands-on design of hardware products including GPU, CPU, memory, storage, NICs, rack power systems, and network switches.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry, safety, and quality standards
  • Successful track record of bringing complex products to market.
  • Prior experience in a startup or fast-paced, prototype-heavy R&D environment, demonstrating an ability to navigate unknowns and recover quickly from development failures.
  • Proven ability to rapidly develop and present technical solutions when faced with complex customer challenges.

Physical Demands: Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment. Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required. Occasional travel may be required.

Typical Experience: 15+ Years of high-speed, complex systems development Have experience building products from scratch all the way to high-scale production

Typical Education: Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational Requirements may vary by Geography
