We are looking for a Project Engineer to lead capital projects and outage-related initiatives while managing engineering, design, and construction resources across Industrial Gases North America facilities. This position will be full-time contract and is hybrid in Gonzalez, LA. .
What You'll Do
Lead assigned capital projects, including standalone projects and projects executed during plant outages
Manage all engineering, design, construction, and contractor resources throughout project lifecycles
Develop project estimates, funding documents, schedules, and forecasts within SAP
Ensure projects receive appropriate Process Hazard Reviews (PHRs) and Operational Readiness Inspections (ORIs), and that resulting actions are completed promptly
Promote and implement inherent process safety principles in all project designs
Provide field supervision and support during project execution
Lead and maintain project safety performance and compliance
Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables
Ensure projects meet operational and customer requirements
Coordinate with plant operations, maintenance teams, and contractors during project planning and execution
Participate in turnaround planning and execution activities as required
Support safe work permitting processes and outage execution activities
Travel approximately 15–25% as required by project assignments
Conduct safety kickoff meetings with contractors and operations teams before project execution
Ensure contractors understand and comply with all Air Products safety standards
Clearly communicate project safety goals, including zero recordable incidents and zero first-aid cases
Complete contractor Behavioral Safety Process (BSP) observations during project execution
Perform daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reviews and documentation.
Participate in safe work permit issuance processes
Lead daily toolbox and safety meetings
Report incidents immediately and ensure corrective actions are implemented
Verify contractor Emergency Action Plans are submitted before mobilization
Participate in safety audits, safety sampling, and outage-related safety activities
Attend and contribute to monthly safety meetings
What You'll Need
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
Experience supporting manufacturing plant operations, maintenance, and/or capital projects.
Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills.
Demonstrated leadership and ability to influence stakeholders across engineering, operations, and management teams.
Strong commitment to worker safety and regulatory compliance.
Basic understanding of operating plant environments.
Knowledge of quality standards and project execution best practices.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
Ability to work varied schedules and hours while following fatigue management guidelines.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional in demanding situations.
Ability to obtain and maintain:
TWIC Card
Security Passport
Required refinery/site access credentials and background clearances
Ability to pass criminal background investigations and applicable drug and alcohol screening requirements.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of business and operational information.
Preferred:
Experience managing capital projects in industrial gas, chemical, refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing environments
Experience with SAP project management and cost forecasting
Turnaround/outage planning and execution experience
OSHA certifications or other industry-recognized safety credentials
Experience working with contractors and multi-discipline project teams
0–20 years of experience in maintenance, engineering, or project management disciplines
Physical Demands
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards
Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office, plant, or job site
Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
Ability to work in industrial plant environments, including walking elevated structures, climbing stairs, and navigating active construction or outage work areas when required

$70-$74 per hourThe pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
