Summary: The duties and responsibilities of this position involve assisting RN's and physicians with procedures and routine medical service tasks necessary for patient care, stocking supplies, and cleaning and maintaining endoscopes and other equipment. Additional responsibilities include assisting patients to stretchers, instructing them on where to store belongings and changing into gowns. The GI Tech may also help give patient nourishments with RN's direction. Communicates patient and physician requests promptly to the nursing staff, maintaining equipment, and participation in procedures, and efficiently operating the hospital information system.
- Provides safe and efficient direct patient care with consideration for age-specific accommodations. Assists physicians with endoscopic procedures as well as patient care duties and documentation under direction of an RN in order to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient population served in the endoscopy unit.
- Demonstrates knowledge and technical skills in decontamination and processing of endoscopy specialty equipment, instruments functions and special handling. Maintains supplies at proper par levels, maintains equipment functioning through troubleshooting, and communication with biomedical engineering and plant operations.
- Promotes patient safety through adherence to protocols, policies, procedures, evidence-based guidelines and Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals. Monitors environment to adhere to SGNA standards and Doylestown Hospital standards. Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and personal safety to avoid contact with hazardous compounds and potentially harmful body fluids. Demonstrates patient utilizing recommended two identifiers, i.e. name and birthdate. Demonstrates the highest level of professionalism and ethical standards in performance of their duties with integrity and to comply with all applicable laws in manner that excludes considerations of personal advantage or gain.

- Must pass an accredited program through National Commission for Certifying Agency, which is administered by one of the following agencies and must maintain or obtain (within 18 months of hire): Certified Endoscope Reprocessor HSPA (IAHCSMM) or Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor CBSPD

- Completion of nursing assistant/medical technician/PCT program. One-year clinical related experience, (i.e., nursing assistant, medical technician, PCT). Endoscopy experience and/or respiratory experience. One year clinical related experience preferred, (i.e., nursing assistant, medical technician, PCT). Endoscopy experience and/or respiratory experience preferred.
