Phlebotomist II

The Phlebotomist II performs venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis. May perform EKGs, waived and moderately complex testing with supervision. May perform pre-employment drugs of abuse screens. Performs various other support services for the laboratory as assigned. Monitors incomplete work lists on LIS throughout shift. May perform assay for ABG's and COOX samples with appropriate supervision. The Phlebotomist II will have a certification in a phlebotomy registry.

Responsibilities include consulting/conferring with healthcare providers/patients regarding patient care as it relates to phlebotomy service issues, ensuring quality and accuracy of work, investigating problems with equipment, patient results, specimens and/or workflow, participating on teams or performing special projects/assignments, performing teaching and training of new employees, phlebotomy students and/or other healthcare providers, reviewing test results to ensure accuracy of reporting and timely correction of errors or report results to healthcare providers, performing phlebotomy procedures, quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory, and responsible for and/or ensuring completion of daily work and assigned tasks. Monitors daily operation of laboratory work area.

Other information includes being a high school graduate or equivalent, graduate of an approved training program in Phlebotomy, and registered as a Phlebotomist through ASCP or ASPT.
