Structure and Payload Design Engineers (Associate or Mid-Level) – Long Beach, CA Position within Boeing Global Services (BGS) Engineering team, responsible for interior modification design for Boeing airplane models including 737, 777, and 787.
Position Responsibilities
Work to meet customer requirements to support Payloads Engineering definition for Interior Modification programs
Fully understand the project statement of work including general certification issues to provide engineering definition
Provide tasks, hours, and flows to develop baseline schedule, support commitment meetings and engage affected groups if required
Work closely with Design Approval Engineers (DAEs) to show compliance with required regulations
Work as an engineer on a multi‑disciplined team with interaction with suppliers, customers, and/or regulatory agencies as required
Support project proposal activities by reviewing statements of work, assessing potential impact to certification or to configuration control, and by defining overall effort required to complete the project
Lead and execute small or medium projects from proposal phase to project completion
Identify any scope change and assess impact to cost and schedule
Provide engineering oversight to Boeing global partners
Manage work assignments and distribution to global partners
Review and approve their work for quality and accuracy to ensure that it meets Boeing standards and certification requirements
Present engineering technical information, and support customer meetings
Coordinate at project level, provide project status to leadership, including assignments, schedules, and budget
Support non‑compliance investigation as part of Boeing Problem Solving Model (BPSM) to provide immediate and long‑term mitigating action
Apply engineering principles to investigate technical inquiries, technical deviations, customer/modification site inquiries, non‑conformances, operational and quality issues that cannot be resolved by customer
Provide technical interim and final engineering solutions
Review and approve service bulletins for technical content that are generated from released engineering
Lead supplier data review and approval
Define supplier data required for supplier‑related interior modifications
Establish due dates, define required reviewers
Review and approve data submittals in CSDT system
Ensure that engineering meets all associated FAA regulations
Develop certification plans when required, and address any AD related items, including AMOC, that are part of the statement of work
Support skill development and knowledge transfer as mentor to early career engineers
Some domestic and/or international travel required
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
2+ years’ experience in an engineering role
2+ years’ experience with commercial aircraft interiors design
2+ years’ experience in Model Based Definition (MBD) (using CATIA/Teamcenter (or similar PDM) methods and tools)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
1+ years’ experience using IVT (Integration Visualization Tool)
1+ years’ experience functioning as a Design Engineer (DE)
1+ years’ experience working with aircraft modifications, upgrades, or retrofit projects
1+ years’ experience in a role which required strong interpersonal and communication skills
1+ years’ experience working in a cross‑functional environment and/or business unit team
Has in‑depth understanding of 14 CFR Part 25 regulations
Aircraft interior commodity experience (Interior commodities are items such as overhead stowage bins, lavatories, galleys, seats, PSU, sidewalls, air grilles, flight deck seats, etc.)
Ability to travel up to 10% domestic and international

Summary pay range (Associate): $90,950 - $123,050
Summary pay range (Mid‑Level): $111,350 - $150,650
