About

Design and Analysis Engineer (Mid-Level or Senior)
Company: The Boeing Company Location: Berkeley, MO – Program: Boeing Phantom Works Overview: As a Design and Analysis Engineer, you will develop and integrate multi‑sensor fusion solutions that combine IR, RF, and off‑board data to deliver reliable fused tracks and sensor products for mission‑critical systems. The role spans algorithm design, real‑time implementation, system integration, verification, and stakeholder communication. Responsibilities
Define system and interface requirements for multi‑sensor fusion across IR and RF domains, including integration of onboard and off‑board sources. Architect and document fusion solutions – block diagrams, data flows, latency/bandwidth budgets, timing, and synchronization. Design, prototype, and evaluate fusion algorithms (track association, data association, state estimation, sensor registration, bias estimation, confidence/uncertainty quantification). Develop simulations, test plans, and lead lab/field verification, validation, and performance characterization. Specify and enforce data models, messaging formats, timestamping, and coordinate‑frame conventions for interoperable integration. Integrate algorithms into real‑time processors and embedded platforms; collaborate with software/hardware teams on optimization, profiling, and deployment. Analyze failure modes, perform sensitivity and robustness studies, and specify fault detection/recovery behaviors. Produce technical documentation for design decisions, validation results, and safety/compliance artifacts. Communicate results, trade‑offs, and operational suitability to leadership, customers, and industry partners; support user demonstrations. Own algorithm lifecycle: requirements → design → prototyping → verification → optimization → deployment → maintenance. Mentor junior engineers (Level3) and lead cross‑functional technical initiatives (Level4). Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) or equivalent. Level3: 5+ years of related experience; Level4: 9+ years of related experience. Solid experience in multi‑sensor data fusion, tracking, or signal processing for IR and/or RF domains. Preferred Qualifications
Competency with sensor fusion techniques: Kalman filters/variants, MHT, particle filters, Bayesian methods, data association. Hands‑on prototyping in MATLAB/Simulink and/or Python; ability to translate algorithms to C/C++ for embedded or real‑time targets. Experience integrating onboard and off‑board data sources and understanding latency, bandwidth, synchronization, and security implications. Strong systems engineering capabilities: requirements derivation, interface control documents, verification planning, and trade studies. Prior deployment of fusion algorithms on real‑time or embedded processors with performance optimization. Familiarity with simulation frameworks and test automation for lab/field characterization. Experience with model‑based systems engineering methodologies (MSOSA). Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated experience presenting to leadership and working across multidisciplinary teams. Equal Opportunity Employer
Boeing is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, or other characteristics protected by law.
