About

Position Overview HYBE America is building a centralized data platform from the ground up. We are investing in a modern cloud data stack to create a single source of truth across all Americas-based operations, including record labels, marketing, artist management, distribution, and merchandise. This infrastructure underpins everything from artist development insights to executive reporting.
We are looking for a Data Engineer with at least 5 years of experience, based in the US or Mexico, to be the founding member of the Engineering vertical within our Business Intelligence team. This position will own the ongoing maintenance and evolution of HYBE’s data platform. You will work alongside our Americas-based BI team as you take on ownership of the stack as it moves into steady-state operations. This is a hands‑on role with real ownership and long‑term platform responsibility. You will be the person who keeps our pipes running, ingests new data sources as the business grows, and ensures data quality across the platform.
This is a full‑time role open to candidates in the US, Mexico, or Colombia, with a strong preference for candidates based near Santa Monica, New York, Mexico City, or Medellin. For candidates near an HYBE office, we are in office 3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline operations:
Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot data pipelines across source systems, third‑party connectors, orchestration workflows, and transformation layers. Ensure scheduled runs complete on time, investigate failures independently, and maintain runbooks for recurring operational issues.
New source ingestion:
Scope, configure, and deploy new data sources as business needs expand. Partner with stakeholders to understand use cases, source schemas, delivery mechanisms, refresh cadence, data quality risks, and ingestion requirements.
GCP and BigQuery administration:
Manage BigQuery datasets, IAM/access controls, service accounts, environment separation, cost monitoring, query performance, and reservations/slot usage where applicable. Design cost‑efficient models using partitioning, clustering, incremental processing, and other BigQuery optimization patterns.
Infrastructure and deployment:
Own deployment workflows for dbt and related data infrastructure, including CI checks, environment promotion, release management, rollback practices, and infrastructure‑as‑code using Terraform or similar tools.
dbt model development:
Build and maintain staging, intermediate, and mart‑level dbt models. Enforce testing, model documentation, naming conventions, and code review standards.
Data governance:
Maintain data governance practices, including access governance, sensitive data handling, and critical dataset documentation.
Data quality and observability:
Implement and maintain data quality checks, alerting, lineage, and observability practices. Proactively identify and resolve data anomalies before they reach downstream reporting, analytics, or executive consumers.
Collaboration with BI team:
Partner with the Head of BI and BI team leads to align engineering roadmap with reporting and analytics needs.
Qualifications
5+ years of professional data engineering experience, with meaningful time spent as the primary or sole engineer responsible for a production data platform.
Strong hands‑on experience with enterprise‑level cloud data warehouse platforms, ideally BigQuery, with experience in performance optimization, access controls, and cost‑aware data modeling.
Production experience with dbt (dbt Cloud or dbt Core) building and maintaining models in a team environment with version control and CI/CD.
Experience with ELT/ingestion tools like Fivetran, Matillion, Airbyte, or similar.
Advanced SQL. This is the primary working language of the role.
Proficiency in Python for scripting, custom connectors, and pipeline orchestration.
Familiarity with privacy‑conscious data handling, PII controls, and permissioning in cloud data environments. Exposure to SOX, SOC 2, or similar compliance frameworks is a plus.
Comfortable working with Git‑based workflows (branching, PRs, code review).
Strong written and verbal communication in English. You will participate in standups, sprint planning, and async communication with a US‑based team.
It’s a bonus if you have
Experience in media, entertainment, or music industry data (streaming consumption data, social media metrics, royalty/revenue data).
Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster).
Experience with data observability platforms.
Exposure to BI tools (Tableau, Sigma, Looker) and understanding of how data models serve downstream reporting.
Experience working with cross‑platform data pipelines (e.g. Snowflake to BigQuery).
Prior experience in a nearshore or remote‑first role supporting a US‑based team.
