Role Description The Design Engineer on the Indian Motorcycle Continuous Improvement team is responsible for identifying, investigating, and resolving field‑related product quality and safety issues. This role leads or supports root cause analysis, risk assessment, and corrective action implementation while collaborating closely with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams. The position plays a key role in communicating findings, monitoring trends, and driving systemic improvements to prevent future issues.
Responsibilities
Lead or support scope, root cause, consequence, and solution implementation of potential safety and quality related issues.
Initiate and maintain Bill of Material (BOM) changes in conjunction with manufacturing, quality, supply chain or engineering teams.
Provide a direct line of communication with manufacturing and quality teams from the assembly plant.
Build and maintain relationships with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure clear communication and continued progression with both engineering and production related issues.
Monitor current data sources and work with cross‑functional teams to identify potential product safety issues that require additional focus.
Use of problem‑solving process and root cause methodology documentation.
Use CAPAs (Standardized Corrective Action/Preventative Action process used at Polaris) to drive corrective actions that will apply learnings across the organization.
Ensure all learnings are communicated to the peer team and captured in technical documentation i.e. Design Standards, FMEAs and DVP&Rs.
Support other initiatives that relate to product safety & quality.
As needed, develop processes/standards for continuous improvement.
Present or support Product Action Plan process to resolve field issues with guidance from senior leadership.
Required Skills & Knowledge
B.S. Engineering Degree required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in consumer product engineering preferred.
Broad working knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and procedures.
Strong multitasking and prioritization skills in a fast‑paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Creative, innovative, and action‑oriented problem solver.
Strong customer and quality focus.
Familiarity with Creo and Windchill preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to work under pressure and maintain a positive attitude.
Working Conditions
Fast‑paced working environment.
Up to 20% travel is associated with this role.
Note* Title will be commensurate with years of experience.
Compensation & Benefits
The starting pay range for Minnesota is
$80,000 to $110,000
per year. Individual salaries and positioning within the range are determined through a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography. While individual pay could fall anywhere in the range based on these factors, it is not common to start at the high end or top of the range.
