Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Sterilization Technician works directly with and under general supervision of the Lead RDA in providing and managing the sterilization of all dental equipment. A successful incumbent will understand the flow and needs of patient care in an outpatient dental setting. This will require strong teamwork and collaboration skills as well as the ability to work with changing priorities in a fast passed environment. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list, but rather to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) will be required to perform a variety of duties listed, including but not limited to: - Maintaining the instruments and working areas in strict accordance with sterilization/ disinfection protocols. - Preparing and arranging instruments, medications and required material. - Preparing patients for dental health services and services and instructing them in appropriate post dental treatment, diet and oral hygiene. - Promptly following all instructions from the dentist as it pertains to patient treatment. - Taking inventory, stocking all supplies, instruments and medications. - Performing required laboratory procedures, i.e., pouring plaster models, etc. - Using four-handed assisting technique as called upon. - Maintaining dental equipment and operatories in good, clean condition at all times. - Cross-training in other dental support positions as necessary, i.e., reception, orthodontics, oral surgery. - Maintaining personal protection per OSHA guidelines as it pertains to personal safety, i.e., protective clothing, eyewear, gloves. - Participating in in-service training, department and general staff meetings and clinics. - Other duties as assigned. Experience and Skills REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required for an employee to successfully perform their duties. - High School Diploma or equivalent, GED. - Possession of a valid State of California Dental X-ray license preferred. - Completion of NVIH sponsored 8-hour Infection Control Course; 6 hours didactic, 2 hours lab training within 90 days of start. - Completion of a dental assist training academic program, or 1-2 years' experience on-the-job training preferred. - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. - Ability to multitask, frequently adjusting and prioritizing duties. - Ability to think critically and engage in solution-based problem-solving actions, considering all relevant details. - Demonstrates collaborative Teamwork in a Respectful manner with various levels within the organization as well as externally. - Proven ability to provide excellent customer service by anticipating customer needs and leaving them feeling satisfied with their experience. - Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Must have Reliable Transportation and ability to adhere to regular attendance. Native Preference.
