Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) – Embedded Systems Are you passionate about designing and scaling automated test frameworks for embedded systems that bridge hardware and software? Do you thrive in debugging complex hardware-software issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, high-quality product delivery?
Baker Hughes is a global energy technology company serving customers in more than 120 countries. We design, manufacture, and deliver industry‑leading solutions that support energy extraction, production, and processing. Our commitment to innovation and operational excellence drives safer, cleaner, and more efficient energy solutions worldwide.
About the Role We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with 5 to 8 years of professional experience in embedded systems and software validation. In this role you will take ownership of our automated test strategy, design and scale advanced test frameworks that bridge hardware and software, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with firmware developers, electrical engineers, and product managers to ensure the reliability of our products.
Responsibilities

Design, architecture, and scale automated test frameworks from scratch for hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) environments and system integration.
Develop Automation Code:
Write robust, production‑grade automation scripts and testing suites using Python or modern C#.
Lead Hardware/Software Debugging:
Isolate, diagnose, and root‑cause complex low‑level hardware defects, race conditions, and timing anomalies using lab equipment.
Optimize CI/CD Pipelines:
Build, maintain, and optimize continuous integration pipelines (e.g., Azure Pipelines, Jenkins, GitLab CI) to orchestrate daily regression testing on hardware.
Drive Testability:
Participate in software code reviews and architectural discussions to advocate for testability, test hooks, and design‑for‑test (DFT) principles.
Mentor Team Members:
Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to junior engineers on the team.
Requirements
Experience:
5 to 8 years of dedicated experience as an SDET or Test Automation Engineer specifically within embedded systems, IoT, automotive (e.g., AUTOSAR), medical device, or aerospace industries.
Programming Mastery:
Strong proficiency in Python (advanced framework development using pytest or unittest) and C#.
Embedded Architectures:
Deep understanding of Real‑Time Operating Systems and Embedded Linux environments along with cross‑development tool chains.
Computer Vision:
Experience testing and employing CV technologies is desirable, particularly employing GPU & NPU platforms with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorRT, SYCL, OpenCL, or OpenVino.
Low‑Level Protocols:
Hands‑on experience testing and troubleshooting communication buses including BLE/Wi‑Fi.
Lab Equipment Literacy:
Proficiency in automating and interacting with laboratory instruments like oscilloscopes, power supplies, and digital multimeters.
Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline.
Preferred
Experience with automated test equipment (ATE) design or custom hardware test fixture development.
Knowledge of safety‑critical development standards (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 62304, DO‑178C).
Experience with containerization tools like Docker for standardized test environments.
Leverage AI/ML tools to accelerate test development, including automated test generation.
Benefits
Contemporary work‑life balance policies and wellbeing activities.
