About

Position Summary
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is a highly skilled technical subject matter expert (SME) responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of enterprise IT infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. This role operates within our Professional Services team, delivering complex infrastructure engagements for clients while also providing Tier 3/4 escalation support to the Network Operations Center (NOC). The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in virtualization, hybrid cloud architecture, network engineering, and Microsoft enterprise technologies, and thrives in a fast-paced, client-facing managed services environment.
Key Responsibilities
Professional Services & Project Delivery
* Lead and execute client-facing infrastructure projects including assessments, migrations, deployments, and technology refreshes.
* Architect and implement virtualization solutions using VMware vSphere/vCenter and Microsoft Hyper-V in both greenfield and brownfield environments.
* Design and deploy hybrid and cloud-native solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure, including IaaS, PaaS, and identity services.
* Produce detailed project documentation including solution design documents (SDDs), network diagrams, runbooks, and as-built documentation.
* Communicate effectively with clients throughout project lifecycles, setting expectations and delivering professional outcomes.
NOC Escalation Support
* Serve as Tier 3/4 escalation point for complex incidents escalated from the NOC involving infrastructure, network, virtualization, or cloud components.
* Analyze root cause of recurring incidents and implement permanent remediation strategies.
* Mentor and provide technical guidance to NOC analysts on complex infrastructure topics.
* Contribute to the development of knowledge base articles, runbooks, and escalation procedures.
Virtualization Administration
* Administer, maintain, and optimize VMware vSphere environments including ESXi hosts, vCenter, vSAN, NSX-T, and related components.
* Manage Hyper-V clusters, live migrations, replication, and failover configurations in Windows Server environments.
* Plan and execute virtual machine migrations between platforms (P2V, V2V, on-premises to Azure).
* Implement and maintain backup/recovery solutions for virtual infrastructure (Veeam, Azure Backup, Site Recovery).
* Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and resource optimization across virtual environments.
Network Administration & Configuration
* Design, configure, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN infrastructure including switching, routing, VLANs, and inter-VLAN routing.
* Administer and configure network equipment from Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or equivalent enterprise vendors.
* Implement and manage firewall policies, NAT, VPN (site-to-site, client-to-site), and network segmentation strategies.
* Apply OSI model Layer 2–6 concepts to diagnose application-layer connectivity issues across server and application ecosystems.
* Configure and maintain SD-WAN solutions, QoS policies, and network monitoring platforms.
* Perform packet analysis and traffic inspection for troubleshooting complex application and protocol issues.
Microsoft Azure & Cloud Services
* Deploy and manage Azure infrastructure including Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks (VNets), NSGs, Load Balancers, and Azure Firewall.
* Administer Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), including user/group management, conditional access policies, MFA, and identity governance.
* Implement and manage Azure hybrid connectivity (ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway, Azure Arc).
* Manage Azure subscriptions, resource groups, RBAC, and Azure Policy for governance and compliance.
* Architect and maintain Azure-based disaster recovery solutions using Azure Site Recovery and geo-redundant storage.
* Monitor and optimize Azure resource utilization and cost management using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Cost Management tools.
Microsoft On-Premises & Hybrid Identity
* Administer Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) including domain controllers, GPOs, OUs, sites, and trusts.
* Manage Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS), DNS, DHCP, and File Services in enterprise environments.
* Administer Microsoft 365 (M365) services including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and OneDrive.
* Deploy and manage Microsoft Intune for endpoint management, MDM/MAM policies, and Autopilot provisioning.
* Implement and manage Azure AD Connect/Entra Connect Sync for hybrid identity synchronization.
* Manage and troubleshoot hybrid Exchange environments and mailbox migrations to Exchange Online.
Security & Compliance
* Implement security hardening practices across server, network, and cloud environments in alignment with CIS benchmarks and industry best practices.
* Administer and maintain endpoint security solutions including Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and server-level antivirus/EDR.
* Assist with vulnerability assessments and remediation activities as directed by security leadership.
* Ensure infrastructure configurations align with client compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOC 2, NIST, etc.) as applicable.
On-Call & Incident Response
* Participate in a structured on-call rotation providing after-hours response to critical infrastructure incidents.
* Respond to and resolve Severity 1/2 incidents within defined SLA windows.
* Conduct post-incident reviews and document lessons learned to improve future response.
Required Qualifications
* 7+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure engineering, systems administration, or network engineering roles.
* Demonstrated SME-level expertise in VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
* Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services including networking, compute, identity (Entra ID), and security.
* Strong understanding of OSI model layers 1–7 with practical application to server and application ecosystem troubleshooting.
* Proficiency in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and hybrid identity with Entra Connect.
* Experience with enterprise switching and routing (Cisco, Fortinet, or equivalent).
* Experience configuring and managing firewalls, VPNs, and network segmentation.
* Familiarity with ITIL framework and working within ticketing/PSA systems (ConnectWise, ServiceNow, or similar).
* Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to document technical work clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or professional services environment.
* Exposure to VMware NSX-T, vSAN, or Horizon virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
* Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation of infrastructure tasks.
* Experience with backup and DR platforms: Veeam, Datto, Azure Site Recovery.
* Exposure to SIEM platforms and security monitoring (Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk).
* Experience with SD-WAN platforms (Meraki, VeloCloud, Fortinet SD-WAN).
Certifications
One or more of the following certifications are strongly preferred or required:

Work Environment & Schedule
* Primary work location: Pegasus Technology Solution’s office. Hybrid or on-site schedule depending on project and client requirements. Working remotely is permitted when possible.
* Participation in an on-call rotation
* Occasional travel to client sites within the DFW metro and surrounding regions (estimated < 20%).
* Must be available for occasional planned after-hours maintenance windows in coordination with clients and internal teams.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
