Position Summary Mobile Safety Associate (Driver) – PRN temporary position, non‑exempt. Compensation $25-$28/hour, about 4 ten‑hour days per week. Works onsite at multiple mobile locations in the NYC area. Must be available immediately and currently reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the NYC area.
Role Overview The Safety Associate/Driver supports the safe, respectful, and orderly operation of Mobile Cooling Services during extreme heat events. Responsibilities include safely driving and parking a mobile cooling vehicle, transporting team members and supplies, coordinating routes, monitoring safety conditions, de‑escalating conflicts, reporting safety concerns, and supporting logistics.
Key Responsibilities
Operate assigned vehicle (mini‑van, passenger van, SUV, etc.) safely while transporting staff, equipment, and supplies.
Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, maintain vehicle cleanliness, and ensure compliance with traffic laws and company policies.
Navigate urban, suburban, and residential environments, identify safe parking locations, and maintain accurate mileage and transportation records.
Assist leadership with route planning, navigation, dispatch communications, and schedule adjustments.
Conduct routine walkthroughs of the vehicle interior and exterior, identify hazards, and report concerns promptly.
Ensure aisles, exits, and emergency equipment remain clear and accessible.
Use trauma‑informed communication and verbal de‑escalation techniques to address conflicts or disruptive behavior.
Provide courteous, professional assistance to older adults, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and community members.
Respond to medical, behavioral, or safety emergencies; contact EMS, fire, or police as required.
Assist with vehicle‑specific emergency procedures, such as evacuation or relocation of the vehicle.
Complete incident reports accurately and promptly following any safety or emergency event.
Assist with loading, unloading, transporting, and securing supplies and equipment; monitor inventory levels and communicate needs.
Support daily setup and breakdown activities and dispatch communications between field teams and supervisors.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the safe and effective operation of Mobile Cooling Services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong driving skills and knowledge of local streets, traffic patterns, and parking regulations.
Understanding of trauma‑informed care and de‑escalation techniques.
Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies and stressful situations.
Sound judgment, independent decision‑making, and ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Follow written and verbal procedures consistently.
Background and Training Requirements
Valid passenger class driver’s license with a clean driving record and at least one year of experience operating vans or other passenger vehicles.
Proof of insurance meeting minimum NY driving requirements.
Basic proficiency with mobile phones, GPS navigation, and communication devices.
At least one year of experience in de‑escalation, conflict resolution, or customer service.
At least one year of experience in safety, security, transportation, customer service, or related field.
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts.
Minimum age 18.
Eligibility to work in the United States without employer‑sponsored visa.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience serving older adults, individuals with disabilities, or other vulnerable populations.
Experience in safety monitoring, transportation services, emergency management, disaster response, community outreach, or social services.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
Experience driving and parking in urban environments.
Training in de‑escalation or crisis intervention (CPI, Mental Health First Aid), trauma‑informed care, First Aid/CPR, or emergency preparedness/incident management.
Work Hours and Conditions
Work schedule includes Sunday–Saturday, with possible overnight, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
10‑hour day shift; 5‑day operation with possible overnight shifts.
Frequent sitting, driving, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat.
Must be able to work effectively in dynamic and changing environments.
Travel and Physical Demands
Up to 100% travel expected, with willingness to deploy to client sites for extended periods.
Mobility required on‑site with clients; ability to maneuver 50 lbs repeatedly.
Sitting or standing for hours; exposure to adverse weather.
Additional Requirements
Must be able to pass a company background check and any client‑specific checks.
Must be able to provide proof that the individual is not located outside the U.S.
