Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving HVAC systems and components to meet performance, quality, and cost objectives. The role supports product development, testing, and manufacturing processes through technical analysis, modeling, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams. The engineer ensures AAON’s products meet industry standards and customer expectations, contributing to innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the organization. Responsibilities
Designs and develops HVAC components and systems to meet performance and regulatory requirements. Conducts engineering analysis, including thermal, structural, and airflow calculations. Creates and reviews technical drawings, specifications, and documentation. Collaborates with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure design feasibility and product reliability. Supports prototype development, testing, and validation of new products. Investigates and resolves product issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions. Participates in cost‑reduction and process improvement initiatives. Communicates technical information clearly across departments and with external partners. Maintains up‑to‑date knowledge of industry standards, materials, and technologies. Performs other duties as assigned. Creates BOMs for any existing or new products. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline. 2+ years of experience in product design, development, or manufacturing engineering, or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent background. Experience in HVAC or industrial equipment design preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification preferred. Skills and Abilities
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and thermodynamics. Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and engineering documentation. Ability to perform engineering calculations and simulations. Familiarity with HVAC systems, components, and industry standards. Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and collaboration abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering tools. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Essential Mental and Physical Functions
Technical focus, attention to detail, and ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments. Analyzes data, develops solutions, and communicates effectively with cross‑functional teams. Frequent sitting, standing, and walking throughout the workday. Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 lbs. Use of fine motor skills for computer work, drawing, and prototyping. Ability to remain focused and organized in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. Work Environment
Mechanical Engineers at AAON operate in a hybrid office and manufacturing environment, requiring regular interaction with cross‑functional teams and occasional visits to production areas. Tasks are performed on‑site in a climate‑controlled office with periodic exposure to factory conditions, including noise, dust, and temperature fluctuations. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used as required in manufacturing areas. This role is classified as a Safety Sensitive Position, requiring heightened awareness and adherence to all safety protocols to ensure a secure work environment.
