What You Need to Know About the Systems Administrator I role:
This a full-time role with the hours of 8:30AM-5PM
Expected Hours of Work: This position operates in a healthcare environment, open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Scheduled shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
This position is designated as a hybrid remote/onsite role, requiring both remote work and on-site presence at Ohio’s Hospice facilities. The employee must be able to report on-site for scheduled workdays, team meetings, maintenance windows, and urgent operational needs. This role also requires up to 30% in-state travel to organizational facilities and partner locations. Any exception to the onsite reporting or travel requirements must be approved in advance, in writing, by the employee’s manager, in consultation with Human Resources, at the sole discretion of the organization.
This position requires the employee to live within 50 miles of Dayton, OH to ensure timely on-site support and participation in scheduled and unscheduled on-site activities. Employees must maintain residency within this radius as a condition of employment. Any exception to this residency requirement must be approved in advance, in writing, by the employee’s manager, in consultation with Human Resources, at the sole discretion of the organization.
Job Summary/Purpose The Systems Administrator I is responsible for the maintenance, support, integrity, and security of the organization’s operating systems and core infrastructure. Under the direction of the IT Director of Infrastructure & Implementation, this role performs day‑to‑day administration, patching, and troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra ID, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Linux, and virtualized environments (VMware/Hyper‑V), ensuring systems are configured, patched, backed up, and monitored to support high‑quality patient care. Some experience with Aruba networking hardware including Aruba Central desired. The role participates in user/account administration, hardware/software installations, backup/restore, endpoint management, documentation, ticket resolution, and on‑call rotations to maintain 24x7 availability.
Qualifications Education
Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
Certifications (required)
CompTIA Security+ (SY0‑601/701) — required (or must be obtained within six months of hire per policy).
Experience
1–3 years supporting Windows Server/Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and virtualization in an enterprise environment.
Basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP, VLANs), identity/access management, and scripting (PowerShell) exposure.
Working knowledge of backup/restore, patch management, and endpoint/security tooling.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver first/second-level administration and break/fix for Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and related services.
Perform account provisioning, group policy changes, print services, file services, certificate renewals, and routine server/VM tasks.
Execute patching, vulnerability remediation, and antimalware updates following change‑management procedures.
Monitor systems, jobs, and alerts; triage incidents; allocate as needed; and document root cause/resolution.
Administer backup/restore jobs; participate in disaster recovery exercises and maintenance windows.
Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, inventories, and standard operating procedures.
Support application and infrastructure deployments; collaborate with peers, service desk, networking, and security teams.
Follow organizational policies and security standards that align with the HIPAA Security Rule and NIST guidance for protecting ePHI.
Stay current via training and self‑study on relevant technologies and healthcare IT best practices.
