About

Overview Position Summary: A technical subject matter expert on bridge projects with a background in bridge design. May serve as an internal consulting resource to other professionals across the company and support business development. Project work focuses on Florida bridge projects.

Responsibilities Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Acts as a technical specialist in miscellaneous structure design, including bridges.
Provides internal technical advice to project managers for proposals and client presentations.
Collaborates with a project manager on planning including project scope, concepts, strategies, task organization, effort estimates, required resources, and schedules.
Collaborates on development of cost and budget estimates.
Provides technical guidance in developing an agreement for engineering services, including scope, fee structure, fee amount, schedule, and risk provisions.
Directs, manages and participates in the production of project deliverables. Performs or participates in:
Preliminary studies, plans and cost estimates
Definition and oversight of design surveys
Designs and plan production
Conducting project status/review meetings
Specification and contract document development and production
Bidding and contract award and construction administration oversight
Monitors and maintains quality on all facets of project deliverables
Provides input to the project manager regarding the monthly project accounting process, including review of time and expense charges.
In coordination with the project manager, communicates openly with clients to ensure satisfaction.
Participates in ongoing client maintenance activities as appropriate.
Reviews personal and project staff labor utilization relative to assigned project teams regularly.
In coordination with the project manager, oversees and directs assignments of engineers and technicians.
Develops an open environment encouraging communication and provides constructive performance feedback to team members.
Provides performance information on all project team members to leaders.
Stays abreast of new engineering trends, techniques, strategies, philosophies, and methods. Participates in professional organization(s) and maintains licensure.
Focused on project delivery, mentoring, and technical leadership.
Has a substantial role in developing and implementing scope, fee, schedule, and quality plans for projects.
Mentors team members.
May analyze a specific issue on a PM’s project to recommend cost‑effective solutions.
Meets with equipment vendors on a technical basis as directed.
May present at conferences and tradeshows as directed.
May participate in the company’s standard specification process as directed.
May serve as people manager/HR supervisor for a team.
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Professional Engineering License
Demonstrates creativity, foresight, and judgement in planning, organizing, and problem analysis and resolution.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills to maintain relationships.
Professional engineering license in any state; ability to obtain in other states by reciprocity.
Knowledge of contracting methods including design‑bid‑build and design‑build.
Provides internal technical advice to project managers.
Ability to mentor and develop less experienced staff.
In coordination with the project manager, oversees and directs assignments of engineers and designers.
Stays abreast of new engineering trends, techniques, strategies, philosophies, and technologies.
Experience: 10+ years in civil engineering projects, specifically transportation/bridge projects with increasing responsibility and a P.E. license.
Education: College degree in civil, structural engineering or equivalent through combined education and experience.
Travel Requirements: Position may travel for client meetings, business meetings, and/or industry conferences. Occasional travel up to 20% of the time. May travel to other Bartlett & West locations. Valid driver’s license with good driving record required.
