AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The role will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. You will collaborate across AWS to ensure the highest standards for safety and security while delivering scalable, cost‑effective network capacity for our customers.
Responsibilities
Own end‑to‑end design, engineering, implementation, and operations of current and new IP networks.
Lead the design and evolution of highly available hyper‑scale networks from concept to launch and beyond.
Define and influence strategy within and outside the team.
Lead project teams to deliver impactful benefits to customers.
Work closely with network engineers and software developers to automate network deployment and operations.
Drive operational excellence projects to improve network performance and reliability.
Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
Hire, mentor, and coach engineers.
Review and implement changes on the network.
Physical and Other Requirements
Support an off‑hours operations escalation pager rotation.
Operate efficiently under pressure and with customers during problem resolution.
Maintain a high level of alertness and attention to detail while sitting in front of a computer during scheduled work hours.
Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
This position requires that the selected candidate be a U.S. citizen and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with a polygraph.
Basic Qualifications
8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols.
5+ years of experience working in a Linux/Unix environment.
3+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl.
Experience with IP networking technologies such as BGP, OSPF, IS‑IS, MPLS, TCP, SLB, network hardware platforms, and packet forwarding architectures.
Network design, engineering, implementation, and/or operations experience.
Experience leading solutioning, planning, engineering, growth, operations, and/or enhancement of industry‑leading IP network solutions.
Bachelor's degree in Networking, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to lead and deliver complex network projects and drive operational excellence.
Proficiency in developing network automation software.
Ability to drive and manage customer‑impacting network events.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
Strong prioritization, time‑management, and problem‑resolution skills.
Compensation and Benefits Base salary range: $159,100.00 - $215,300.00 USD annually (Herndon, VA). Salary commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location.
