As a Senior Business Intelligence and Analytics Engineer in AbbVie Business Technology Solutions (BTS), you’ll have opportunities to contribute to the digital transformation of a leading biopharma company, helping to create solutions that impact patients and their communities for the better.
Responsibilities
Foster strong relationships with key business stakeholders and clients with strong interpersonal communication and ability to work with business and cross‑functional teams to deliver and execute complex analytics projects.
Bring analytics knowledge of best‑in‑class business intelligence practices, deep understanding of data modeling, dimensional modeling and data warehouse.
Help business stakeholders by providing actionable data insights, discovering trends and patterns, anomalies, outliers, and correlations to drive better business decisions.
Design and develop impactful and intuitive data visualizations to effectively communicate data findings.
Develop mockups based on business requirements and curate data to scope out reporting needs.
Have strong knowledge of creating semantic models (involving complex logical attributes and KPI measures) adhering to metric governance standards.
Establish and follow BI and analytics best practices including peer review, code review, documentation, coding standards, data quality and ensure reproducibility and compliance.
Serve as internal SME on the BI platform and drive the self‑service COE with office hours training.
Establish data and metric governance around the curated datasets and metrics, and best practices.
Conceive, design, engineer, and implement technology solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage and work processes; investigating problem areas; demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.
Demonstrate high proficiency across a wide range of technologies and platforms related to design and development, programming languages, data integration, data warehousing, data analysis and visualization tools, data storage, network connectivity, and virtualization/cloud environments.
As lead engineer, mentor and guide junior resources in architecting BI solutions and manage and prioritize multiple projects to meet priorities with efficient time management.
Perform requirement lifecycle management, epic and story creation (Jira/Confluence), change management, functional testing, coordination of user acceptance testing and training.
Tools and Skills You Will Use in This Role
Advanced SQL
BI and data visualization and data discovery tools like Power BI, Tableau
Data prep tools like Dataiku or similar tools like Alteryx, Tableau Data Prep
Python or R
Cloud data warehouse Snowflake
JIRA, Confluence and Agile project methodology
Qualifications
“Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field with 7 years of relevant experience or master’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience; PhD with 2 years’ experience.”
Experience in requirements gathering, functional/technical documentation, stakeholder engagement, running user training sessions and building a power user business community.
Able to work with business and cross‑functional teams to deliver and execute complex analytics projects. Highly autonomous and productive in accomplishing the deliverables with minimal direction.
Experience in BI and analytics architecture, dimensional modeling, data products, data visualization, data discovery, building curated data sets, insight generation and advanced analytics.
Hands‑on working experience in writing complex SQL.
Hands‑on experience with BI and data visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau.
Hands‑on experience in Snowflake (stored procs, dynamic tables).
Hands‑on experience with data prep tools like Dataiku, DBT or Alteryx.
Hands‑on experience in CI/CD (DBT, Azure Repo, Git).
Experience in Python.
