This position will require occasional on-site meetings. The selected candidate must live within commuting distance of Washington, D.C.
Responsibilities
Advanced troubleshooting of systems and network issues
Maintenance of a variety of security tools and their supporting components (Nessus, Splunk, Burp Suite, SonarQube, Trivy, etc.)
Leverage monitoring software (Zabbix, Matomo, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, etc.) for analyzing and reporting on systems
Monitoring and tuning system configurations to improve performance and address errors
Supporting development teams in implementing application specific monitoring for availability and functionality
Fortinet firewall, iptables, and proxy support
Cisco network and fiber channel switch configuration and updates
Managing the internal network including ipv6, micro‑segmentation, zero‑trust, proxy, DNS, firewall configurations, authentication, etc.
Scripting and task automation (Bash, Python, curl, regex, PowerShell, etc.)
Required Skills
A minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Network Engineer
Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and skills
Working knowledge of network protocols and the ability to perform diagnostics
Ability to create system documentation for ongoing system management
Able to independently monitor, troubleshoot, and tune system configurations
Able to develop and maintain BASH, Python, and PowerShell scripts
Experience with Public Key Infrastructure and managing encryption keys and certificates
Independent problem‑solving skills, IT troubleshooting, software debugging, strong analytical abilities, creativity, and a clear appreciation of customer needs
Networking experience in the following: firewalls/routers/switch management, Cisco VPN, ipv4/ipv6, OSPF, BGP
Strong verbal communication skills
Must be detail oriented and comfortable using issue tracking systems
Must be comfortable conducting prioritization, problem assessment and problem solving independently
Preferred Skills
Working knowledge of network security best practices
Experience with programming in some combination of Bash/Java/Perl/PHP/C/C++/go/Ruby/Python
Linux server administration
System administration experience building and configuring some subset of the following:
Linux Management Tools: Satellite, libvirt/kvm virtualization, puppet, storage management
Fiber Channel SAN
Container tools: Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, Ansible, Harbor Container Registry
Database maintenance and administration
Experience with compliance controls and security hardening for a US Government computer system at the FISMA Moderate or High levels
Understanding of Zero Trust principles
Education Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Experience may be substituted in absence of a degree.

Salary Range $120,000-$145,000
