We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Manager to oversee high voltage construction projects from inception to completion. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in electrical infrastructure, specifically high voltage systems (69kV - 500kV), and experience in managing the design, construction, and commissioning phases of transmission and distribution systems. This role requires strong leadership, exceptional organizational skills, and a deep understanding of safety and regulatory standards in the power industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all phases of high voltage construction projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution, and closeout.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met within scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Prepare detailed project plans, including milestones, timelines, cost estimates, risk management strategies, and resource allocation.
  • Oversee contractor performance, ensuring all work complies with specifications, regulations (e.g., OSHA, NERC), and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with design and engineering teams to ensure technical specifications and design criteria are adhered to.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust as necessary to ensure successful project delivery, addressing any delays or issues promptly.
  • Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and prepare financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and manage permit acquisition as necessary.
  • Conduct regular site visits to inspect work and ensure high standards of quality and safety.
  • Lead project meetings, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and provide regular project updates to senior management.
  • Manage and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle, including scheduling delays, cost overruns, and technical challenges.
  • Oversee commissioning and handover processes, ensuring all systems meet operational and safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree Construction Management, or a related field (Master's degree or PMP certification preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in project management, specifically in high voltage transmission and distribution systems.
  • Proven experience managing projects within the power or utility sectors, particularly involving high voltage infrastructure (69kV and above).
  • In-depth knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and codes (e.g., NEC, NESC, IEEE).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and best practices specific to high voltage projects.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP certification or similar project management certification.
  • Experience with substation / T&D construction, power plant projects, or renewable energy high voltage projects.
  • Knowledge of contract negotiation and vendor management.
  • Chicago, Illinois, United States
