Summary The Safety Intern works closely with the site Safety Coordinator in conjunction with the Director of Health & Safety. This internship provides hands-on learning opportunities while supporting the implementation and monitoring of comprehensive health and safety programs across farm locations. As the Safety Intern, you will gain exposure to all facets of Occupational Health & Safety practices within a workplace setting. ResponsibilitiesGain experience with safety procedures and practices to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and applicable state regulations. Assist with the implementation, monitoring, and management of safety programs, policies, and procedures to meet company safety needs. Evaluate on-site safety and emergency management programs to improve overall safety conditions. Gain experience with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management and chemical labeling practices. Perform routine walk-throughs of facilities and equipment to observe hazards and unsafe activities. Collaborate with the Safety Coordinator and Safety Committee to implement safety improvements. Assist in accident investigations by gathering data, preparing reports, and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Become familiar with computer-based reporting systems for injuries, auto, process, and property losses. Support safety training initiatives, including new hire safety orientation. Gain exposure to food safety practices to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed. Physical DemandsAbility to sit approximately 35% of an eight-hour workday. Ability to stand or walk approximately 65% of an eight-hour workday. Occasional lifting, squatting, or turning (5% or less per week). Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion. Required QualificationsActively pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or a related field. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and pass vehicle insurance verification. Desired QualificationsProficient with basic computer software systems such as Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to learn internal safety systems. Strong organizational and project management skills. Excellent communication skills with a willingness to seek and apply constructive feedback for professional growth. Expected Hours of WorkMid-May through mid-August (start and end dates are flexible based on the candidate’s schedule). Typical hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional extended hours during peak seasons such as planting and harvest.
