Physical Security Solutions Architect The Physical Security Solutions Architect is a critical hands-on technical leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s comprehensive physical security technology infrastructure. Position Summary This role serves as the primary technical authority for all physical security systems, including video surveillance, access control, badging, critical communications, and visitor management platforms. The architect will create and maintain documentation of existing systems, identify improvements, and implement standardized, scalable solutions that align with enterprise IT standards while meeting the security needs of a multi-location manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Systems Architecture & Platform Management Design, implement, and maintain architecture for all physical security platforms (e.g., Genetec, InformaCast, SailPoint, Workday, Envoy). Document system architecture with network diagrams, integration flows, data models, and SOPs. Assess current state architecture for strengths, vulnerabilities, risks, and modernization needs. Design future-state architecture emphasizing standardization, scalability, and cloud-first approaches. Perform hands-on administration of physical security platforms (configuration, updates, patches). Determine daily ownership and operations for system administration across IT, security, HR, and business functions.
Integration Design & Implementation Design and implement integrations between physical security systems and enterprise applications (Workday HRIS, SailPoint identity governance, etc.). Develop seamless data flow for onboarding/offboarding, access provisioning, and identity lifecycle management. Create and maintain integration documentation, including data mappings and API specifications. Collaborate with Network Infrastructure and Cybersecurity teams to ensure secure, high-availability network architecture.
Access Control & Badging Systems Support implementation of access control policies, badge workflows, and visitor management procedures. Design systems to support user access privileges across all systems. Conduct regular audits and access reviews with IT, GRC, and security teams. Troubleshoot badge card management, printing workflows, and credential administration. Maintain standardized hardware configurations for readers, locks, and control panels.
Video Surveillance Systems Design and manage enterprise video surveillance architecture in compliance with recording strategies and retention policies. Specify camera types, encoders, and storage solutions based on security requirements. Configure and optimize video management system (federation, archiving, analytics). Support incident investigations by providing video evidence and system expertise.
Critical Communications & Emergency Management Provide technical configuration and support of critical communications platforms for emergency notifications and facility-wide announcements. Integrate critical communications with other security systems for automated responses to security events.
Vendor & Partner Management Manage relationships with security technology vendors, system integrators, and service providers. Evaluate vendor roadmaps and emerging technologies to inform strategic planning. Coordinate with vendors for support escalations, product enhancements, and system upgrades. Establish and maintain service level agreements with technology partners.
Operations & Support Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation as escalation point for physical security incidents. Lead incident response for system failures in collaboration with IT Services and Network teams. Provide technical guidance to Level 1/2 support staff. Determine ownership and administration models for applications across IT and business functions. Monitor system health, performance metrics, and capacity planning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate with Network Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, IT PMO, HRIS, Integrations, and non-IT stakeholders (HR, Legal, Communications, Operations, Facilities, contractors, law enforcement). Coordinate on VLAN management, network segmentation, switch configurations, and firewall rules. Ensure security controls, vulnerability management, and threat monitoring for physical security platforms. Provide project planning and resource coordination to implement physical security initiatives.
Required Qualifications Education – Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Security Management, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience – Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in physical security systems architecture, design, and implementation; 5+ years of hands-on experience with security center platforms such as Genetec and InformaCast. Professional Skills – Exceptional documentation skills; excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Working Conditions Primarily remote work with regular on-site presence required at corporate headquarters and manufacturing facilities. Estimated travel 20-30%. Participation in 24/7 on-call rotation for escalated incidents; occasional after-hours or weekend work for maintenance, upgrades, or emergency response. Physical requirements include access to equipment rooms, data centers, and performing site surveys in manufacturing environments.
